to me it is a stupid place to put a fuel filter   but may be easier to access than in the engine bay
common rail injection systems can have the same problems as you describe if they can draw air and the fuel has to get pumped back up
difficult to see the source of the leak  the filter head wont be cheap either

it will be the pipework leaking the green one probably
yes this will definetly be causing poor starts and missfires due to air in the system
give it a good clean up with presure washer
i would replace the air bleed valve £16 first pipe on left as you look at it
filtter heads are also notorius for being porous

The filters themselves are prone to rusting,I had to change mine yesterday as it was wet with fuel round the base. Your problem certainly looks to origionate from higher up.

There is a purge procedure to bleed the fuel system the pump will make horrible noises but its normal after replacing parts in fuel system. Depress the throttle 5-6 times with ignition on the engine management light should come one from memory it should only be done once as you can flood the engine. Should start fine after pump has stopped making priming noises.

Another vote for a rusty filter casing, common issue.

Well i received my new filter cleaned up all the surrounding areas and replaced my filter, did a purge and this is what its revealed.
Now how do i go about fixing this please, does it mean replacing the line or can you buy just the plug?

All sorted, i cut the plug off with the red rubber jacket as thats where the leak was, and replaced it with a short pieces of fuel line.
Went out for a nice drive and all is well..
