wires/connectors under cubby box ????

Hi All,

Wondered why my cubby box was sitting on 2 bits of wood so took it out to find a loom with 4 connectors from below. 1-fuse 2-multiplug 3- multiplug 4- 3 pin plug with rubber cap. unscrewed the lid to find it joining another loom underneath going to a small black box mounted inside the battery box.

Does anyone know what this is? (96 300tdi Defender).

Any help gratefully received.

Later 300TDi engines have an ECU in that location. I'm not sure if 96 is late enough. Sounds like it is.

I have a 300 series v8. There is boxes under my cubby box. I'll have a look and report back.

Mines on an N Plate, Registered in Apr 96 -  VIN ends with F7TA987xxx - No ECU.

It's Oct' 96, P reg. SALLDVB67XXXXX 
I think the V means it's 1997 model year?

as a defender it "should" be the EGR controller, 300tdi defenders dont have ecu's, only 300tdi late autos had an edc pump & thus had an ecu

i didnt get a chance to get a piccy today, will be tomorrow now, was doing a timing belt on a ford puma.  :'(

Thanks for that. It is completely different tho. I've taped it up, bagged it then tank taped it all to seal it then cable tied it to the loom underneath. Much tidier inside cab and cubby box sits better now.
