Wanted - 3.9 EFI V8 engine
« on: December 14, 2011, 03:44:49 PM »
Hi,

As per subject line, I'm looking for a 3.9 engine to fill the big empty space in my 101 where the old engine used to live :)

Needs to be EFI as it will eventually be mega-squirted.

Much cheapness = better ;)

Anyone have anything lurking?

Cheers

Scott

Yes but it's in Leicester at the moment!

Why do you want to megasquirt it? Hotwire is brilliant-it's reliable and tuneable to a lot of good reliable economic power (mate is getting 22mpg out his RR on standard internals).

So it's in a running vehicle then? Tell me more :)

Usual engineer answer - because I can  ;D

I want to run both petrol and LPG and be able to have efficient maps for each.

Thanks,

Scott

It's not in a vehicle, sitting in a lockup just now :P

The petrol injection components have nothing to do with the LPG system though. The square top plenums flow very well and are second only to the THOR manifolds, in off the shelf terms.

Timing wise the dual timing amplifiers from tinley tech are perfect for giving the advance and retard necessary between fuels and wire in to the existing vehicle loom.

If what you want to do is run an injection LPG kit on the engine then that is still straightforward enough with the standard ecu.

Unless you have unlimited rolling road time and want to sit at a computer megasquirt cannot be optimised for the vehicle in 2 mins. Just makes more sense to set the existing system up properly IMO. The hotwire is capable of handling over 400hp so why bother spending money on a diy mix of parts that needs hours of tuning and expense.

Yes, I agree this is not keeping with the Keep It Simple approach  ;D

Wasn't aware of the dual timing amps - I'll look further  :)

Initially it will go in as a standard setup, probably with single point gas.

I'll see how that goes before trying anything drastic.

Cheers
