As there are no club events in July just wondered if there would be any intrest in another w/e away camping(tin tents welcome) I know most places will be busy but am sure I can find somewhere that will meet our meagre needs.
-
Possibly ;D
-
hmmmmm............... tempting :P
how many pages are we going for this time? lets see if we can crash the forum ;D ;D
joking ;D before i get banned :(
-
Well thats me a possible and jumbo,I will put up a suggestion over the w/e re dates and as yet secret venue
-
Depends on the date, a wee tad busy this month, but if its half as much fun as the Strontian expedition, I might have to re-arrange some stuff.
As to crashing the forum with a long thread, we dont have enough time to get that much in :D :D
T
-
Wouldnt bet on it,as i have 2 potential places and dates, just trying to make sure we can get a wee bit of off road drive included :)

;D ::)
-
Squadron Leaders plans including his own craft and acommodation module must remain secret for now(too many choices soon).
This hiccup to original plan a blue oval will be sent in first in a kamakazie attack to clear the way.
All further information will be transmitted Sunday.
Read and destroy this message.
Take care out there
-
Why sunday? Just get it telt, its like waiting on the germans knocking the over rated football team that lives next door to our great country out!
Hope the dates don't clash with ma holiday, would be interested
James

-
Count me in for the friday and saturday am off to Strontian on the sunday for lunch already arranged over
-
How you going to get from Benbecula to Strontian in time for lunch ;D ;D
-
typical its the weekend AFTER my long weekend lol, still as im working overtime the friday/saturday of the long weekend i guess they due me an other one lol
im in ;D ;D ;D
-
The motley crew starts to form, I think Bill and the family might be in France either just now or when this is planned.
Will not be the same without the herd
-
am sure they could SLIPper on down for a night or 2 ;D
-
Pretty sure we could shoe horn him in ;D ;D
-
:)they may parachute in
-
Is that a clue? :)
-
think bill's sister had had enough of flying objects after the last trip lol
-
Black 10 and his wing lady might just be waiting for location to see if they can get planning permission for their hangers on the other hand maybe he can find no suitable shoes in the fire retardant section ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
To the Black Stealth Bomber pilot I am already thinking of canceling the lunch on the sunday but this will be fully confirmed on the friday when you pass me the regulation "thurst quencher" on arrival and then I will know it is the start of another weekend not to be missed, or should that be pi??ed.
I see that it was already mentioned but I think our man in Glasgow could do a nice job on some "uniforms" I mean it is part of the requirements
-
URGENT All of my targets are bombed out I have one as a fall back but wanted to keep it until later in year.
Suggestions welcome but check availability...this is your mission
-
Even if you can suggest a base camp we can plan around it for exploring perhaps
T
-
Ok leader
So we all don't waste time beavering about can we set the parameters for this weekend, not worth trying to get some where that it is miles and miles away?
I would suggest 3 hours travelling from our base as this would be same distance as our first sorte, ok so it is a few miles but was worth it.
What about a sorte into the land adjoining ours, the one attached to the other side of Hadrians Wall must be some areas there.
-
right all, we have the option of settling at Gene's place at Brig o Turk, where we can have a camp fire and water supply. i was hoping to keep this for a winter venue.
Given the fact that far as i can see all sites at the end of july are fully booked so i think we should base ourselves at Gene's and take it from there.
We dont want a team of landrovers searching for a site when we have one on our doorstep.
poll
cheers john
-
Count me in provisionally.
I have to admit though that I'm confused as to the location of the weekend (or camp). Is it Brig o Turk not far from Aberfoyle?
-
Gene's it is for me. We can always work out some areas for a jaunt, maybe Sandy has a few possibilities since he is the maestro in the GRR arena
T
-
yes Cedric just over the hill.
Lots to do in the area I might take a boat on the loch if one is available to hire or if I can bring my own.
A bit boring to some but the wee church outside Aberfoyle is well worth a visit (all the great and good were buried in metal coffins to avoid Burke and Hare) plenty shops Callender and Aberfoyle.
There is a road up loch Catrine which I am told is a nice drive,so lots to do.
-
Just a brainstorm i had today....as long as our generous host will allow, could always organise some 'auto-games'. More accuracy & skill as opposed to speed, so wont make a mess.
Example: The usual drive through tight cones/canes/whatever
Reverse through said cones.
See how far you can drive with a football on your bonnet-no bonnet mounted spare wheels
allowed. ::)
Simplified TYRO.....blindfolded!!! Need a trustworthy navigator for that one!! :o
Best of 3 runs and if folk donated a small 'prize', like a bar dairy milk/tartan keyring...whatever, adds to the fun.
Im sure with a bit of imagination some more could be thought off. We used to do this sort of stuff on fun days with the Triumph club, and its really good fun
Anyway, just an idea. Bomb it out if you wish!!!
-
Good idea Mel, we used to do stuff like that when out in the wilds. One task was driving with a glass (or plastic beaker) of water on the bonnet. The remaining water was measured and the winner was the one with the highest volume.
Take that through the tyro canes could be fun
T
-
Right guys whos coming ??? numbers please
-
Right folks. Numbers to Sthrifty please.
The Forest Drive is out our back gate, not very exciting but good views. FC Honesty Box on the entrance. The games idea sounds good and I'll have a think about other stuff to do.
CAUTION. If the wind drops our place is Midge City. Pray for wind or pack industrial quantities of DEET.
G.
-
Ok count me in for this sorte, Gene I only have a small tent so I won't need to apply for planning permission unlike some who attended last sorte "errecting hangers and telling us they were tents" do they think we are stupid ????
Mel the games are really good I will bring along a milky bar :D :D :D :D
-
Count me in John.
-
You taking the tin tent John, might give mine a shakedown cruise :)
-
Yep, me too. Blue oval with awning ::)
Gene, are well behaved dogs welcome please?
-
ok im persuaded lol ;D ;D
these games sound like a laugh, 'tyro' in reverse gear sounds fun (if i can persuade my reverse to work that is >:( ) nice and local for me as well so bonus. just get my days off swapped and im in :D
-
Yep, me too. Blue oval with awning ::)
Gene, are well behaved dogs welcome please?
Mel. Yep, but be aware that there are Highland Cattle with calves about.
-
I'll try to attend. I don't know under what conditions yet. What are the exact days? Is it Friday all day to Sunday?
-
You taking the tin tent John, might give mine a shakedown cruise :)
Ringing a note of caution here.... LR & Tent outfits will be fine but the access to our place is over a narrow hump-backed stone bridge with a sharp bend to get on it. Johns beastie has been over that bridge in the past but its a squeeze......I'd advise against trying to bring a big modern caravan over it.....its a listed grade 2 structure and I don't fancy having to explain to Hysterical Scotland how it came to have a Typhoon Super Executive Cruiser Delux wedged in it.... ;).
-
Speaking from experiance it is very tight when i towed Genes 110 away with a A frame using my disco it was very very tight!!!!!
I am working this weekend and wouldnt be able to make it until about 2 on the saturday. rest of the clan still pending been working funily enough on the same 110 as mentioned so havent had time to put my tuppence worth in but sounds great fun as was the last one. And rest assured i will have the appropriat footwear this time or at least a spare pair of slipper!!!! ;D
Will i be to late on saturday?? Thought i would ask before i get the clan all geared up to go!!
Off to france this saturday so if you could let me Know i will let the rest of family know
Cheers Bill
-
Gene,
Thanks for the heads up on the access, the tin tent can stay in its garage for a wee while longer, at 7 metres and with a 110 steering lock I feel like I need Hampdem Park to turn at times.
It will be the real tent but not the three bedroom detached bungalow that some folks need ;) ;).
Bill, hope the hols go well :).
Tommy
-
Gene, Thanks re-dogs. I usually put up a 'garden' round the van when im camping out in it, so the dogs can have freedom without getting into trouble!! 8)
-
Well well a wee bridge lol no we bottled it last time, however tin tent will be there, early Friday morning. Not bringing the boat keep that for another day.
Sat night Wendy is bringing a motley crew of teenagers so crank up the sounds T.
This looks like be a fun weekend
-
Glad to see that Black 10 and his wing lady can manage hope you all enjoy France and remember to tie everything down :D :D :D
Would not like to here that part of the "bungalow" was blown away down the M6 ;) ;) ;) ;)
Hope you managed to get the inner walls "rebuilt" before going to France ...enjoy and hear all about it round a nice glowing slippery camp fire ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
-
I'm up for this, but might only be SAturday into Sunday. Also off to France this Saturday (Bill, where you going? by ferry? whcih one?) and back on 17th but should be able to get into forum ocasionaly to see what plans are for this camping trip,. Improvised games in landys sounds good, cheers, alan
-
this is sounding better by the day ;D ;D ;D
we must be getting a reputation by now hahahaha
swapped my days off so got friday saturday and sunday off now, even got a new airbed since i burst last one :-[ :-[
oh and a bbq that needs testing :D
-
Looks like our fun weekend is going to be well supported.
Does anyone have a really large BBQ so that we can all dine together.
As our host is allowing us to camp gratis, can I suggest we all donate at least a ?5 to the help for heroes charity?
-
Can always get the grills for the fire if the BBQ is not forthcoming, let me know. Oh and if someone is bring a bow saw can they put a new blade in it, young Bill near died of exhaustion cutting wood last time :) :).
On a logistics POV whats the best idea with re-fuelling at least this time its only 50 miles from home and I dont expect an issue but some of the flight might have further to travel.

Nearest 24 hr fuel is Stirling. Nearest daytime fuel is as you enter Callander, 8 miles from me. I think they close at 8pm this time of year.
-
Dont worry about the bow saw i will bring a few old pallets the burn lovely and save any slippery misshapps this time!!!!!! ::)
Alan we are using the tunnel.
And if you happen to see a old black landie broken down at side of road please dont laugh to hard as you drive past!!!! ;D
Cheers Bill

Games sound like a lot of fun might bring a few of the motley crew of teenagers
-
Friday afternoon for the blue oval arrival ;D ;D
If anyone is creative enough and wants to make a sticker of a green oval or a series Landie to stick on blue oval, or as John calls it 'land-van', to make her feel like part of the crew ( :o), please do. :)
Or better still, has anyone got the black series style Landrover badge they want to sell, so i can bolt it to my back door... ;D....please?
-
I have one rare now you can borrow it i will get a child to venture into dark area...of the shed and if it is there i will post it up to you
-
Cheers. If i manage to get my hands on one i'll let you know. There's enough Landie's getting broken, im sure there must be one kicking around somewhere. I wanted to leave it on the van!! :)
-
Have you got a picture of it or a link to a picture on the web and maybe I can mess about with Photoshop to get it as you want it.
Can get it on an A4 sheet if it scales up without getting too pixelated
T
-
got friday off so am up for an early arrival ;D
-
Just double checking, is this the weekend of 23rd 24th and 25th July
-
i hope so or i've taken the wrong weekend off :D
-
I am normally up at 6 am so should be there mid morning and set up by mid day I suspect.
T
-
You'll have the kettle on for everyone else arriving then Tommy!! ;D
-
and make sure the coca cola ;) is chilled ;D ;D
-
while we are on the topic, does anyone else have any orders they wish to place for refreshments and vittels ::) ::)
-
Errm....well...since youre asking.....you could get the barbie lit, cut the grass for us campers and roll it flat while youre at it, cut the wood for the fire....if i think of anything else, i'll let you know...Cheers Tommy!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Yes ................and I will stick a brush up my........ so I can sweep the floor as I go ;)

Now will I come in my faithfull 110 or the disco which I have only had off road for 10 mins and nearly got stuck.
Aw what does it matter as long as I get there :) :)
-
Some directions would be handy, or even a postcode for the sat-nav. ::)
-
, there are not too many buildings in the village so bound to find it
Should be abot 70 miles for you down in deepest Ayrshire :)
Folks, Not that keen on directions being posted on an open Forum. I'll pm details to all those I know are coming the week previous if thats OK ?
G.
-
hope someone's booked better weather than we got here just now, blowing a gale and now the (horizontal) rains just started :( :( still on the plus side it would surely keep the midges away ::)
-
Fair enough Gene. If needed i use Yell.com maps-simple and straight forward for non-techno me!! Dont have sat nav, i go 'Mel-nav'.....which is usually by way of a road map ::)
-
Gene,
Apologies if I caused concern, totally understand the position, should have though more before I posted. I have removed my post can you take out the one that quoted mine
Tommy
-
I definitively won't be there on Friday as I can't take more holidays :( But I'll try to come on Saturday morning early. Is there a definite programme? (I wouldn't want to turn up to discover that everybody's gone)
-
No definite programme as yet I will speak to Gene see what he has in mind I have one or two ideas but as they say two heads better than one
-
What about a slalom against the clock, while towing "Tin Tent", that should be good for a laugh !!!
;D
-
how about a race against the clock who can unhitch a tin tent the quickest.....thats john last for sure :D :D
-
practise makes perfect :) :) :)
-
What about a fishing challenge, that should boost Mr Mc Ewan's standing since he is an expert :) :)
-

I do like a nice grilled trout for my tea. .........luckily we have Tesco in Callander ;)
-
I will winkle one out the burn if there is any water in it,which failing a trip to the loch, pity I cant tow the boat behind the caravan :) opps tt
-
Subject to Gene,s permission we could have a little archery and airrifle target competion(things i can do )add to my points from fishing and I will still be last once we incorporate any driving element
-

I can tow the boat if you like, that is unless its the size of the Waverley ::), all you have to do is get it loaded and ready and I can hitch it up Thursday night.
That adds another challenge to the pot, we could go water skiing but not sure if your rowing speed is up to it :D :D.
just incase we need a coolbox to make sure Gene's trout does not go off.
Might also come in handy for the Coca Cola :D :D
-

;D
Youve been watching too much Top Gear!! ;D Good idea though....... :D
Kinda makes my ideas all a little tame!! ::)
-
Just had an idea..... what about a cross between sthriftys archery competition and the "Tin Tent" slalom,
the archery target could be attached to the tin tent, thus creating a moving target, to make it a wee bit more interesting ! :P
-
Youve DEFINATELY been watching to much Top Gear...either that or youre bored!!!! :D :D
-
Subject to Gene,s permission we could have a little archery and airrifle target competion(things i can do )add to my points from fishing and I will still be last once we incorporate any driving element
Yep. No problem there at all.
-
Thats great Gene,I will bring along a .177 and a large bow.
Re the boat I will find out if we can launch on any of the fishable lochs
-
I have been waiting for a date to go for a hernia operation, and guess what, the appointment arrived today, due to go in on the 15th July, so I'm afraid that rules me out for camping trip and assosiated horse-play for about a month or so after the op, you are all still welcome to use my BBQ and sankey trailer if it can picked up from my house, I am really p155ed off about this, as I was so looking forward to this trip and meeting you all. :(
-
Thats a pity, sorry to hear that. Hope the op goes ok though.
Catch up on the Top Gear for ideas for the next one!! :)
-
sorry to hear that mate, talk about bad timing
friend of mine just had hernia op and hes only 22. its a sore thing thats for sure
just have to read about it when it comes to court :D . you not get day release even if you cant stay over?
-

Everyone but us Scots eat them, though they are great sport on a fly rod
-
Thats a shame Neil was lookin forward to a good blether :),a man of your means should put op off and go private lol
-
Two weeks to go and only on page 10 ::) ::)
-
Cant believe it only 10 well I have to order arrows, check boat not used since spring time, get permission from W TO GO ,Think shes off to Wickerman festival with horse to do common riding, so lots to chat about :)
-
Well that answers a few questions
The arrows to find the "X marks the spot" ;)
The boat might need towing :-\
and last but not least, it will be the 110 as the "smart" motor will be towing the hay burner :D
-
Right except money pit is going in pals lorry :) there will be rowing involved but think i will use outboard :),so might come in the disco it does seem to go round corners better............... na its not a lumbering uncomy 110 so its the 110
-
This might be a good time to give Gene an idea of how many people landies are coming !

I was just thinking the same, I know the usual suspects (the Strontian Battalion) but there are some others and that's where I get lost
What's a transrover, is it a 90 with a gender identity crisis :)
-
No tommy, its a transit van with a slight identity crisis!! ;D ....now known as a 'landvan'. :o
Need to borrow a rivet gun to put my Solihull badge ( or badges-ive got 2..!! ) on the back door ;D ;D

-
Well 4 plus Bill's team, looks like we will not need a big BBQ :( :(
Plus me and team ...
-
Is Cedric, a Yello Disco ( who's in France?) and a freelander coming...if theres any left..i keep seeing them in fields, after folk keep slinging them over walls!! :o Very litter loutish if you ask me.. :P
For us poor people who dont have the luxury of a tin tent...is there a loo facility??.... :o
And ARE we going to have a BBQ?? No point in bringing grub for it, it if aint going to happen, especially as i dont have a fridge!
Has anyone got canes or can anyone hijack some cones for the weekend?
-
As I said before, you are welcome to take my BBQ, but as I will be in stitches, not of the laughing variety,
someone will have to pick it up from my house, tel. 07770 822844 to arrange.
-
Mel dont know about loo perhaps Gene will advise.
I thought if we all brought 1/2 a dozen canes that should be fine.
BBQ on Saterday night is a great idea i wonder if we can get a big oil drum type,I will check with Neil see what he has.
The boats looking unlikely as me outboard wont start,I have an electric motor but its no use on big loch
-
Waht is about you and things mechanical ::) ::)
-
1/2 Doz cans wont lst long ;) ;)
-
Plenty if we all bring some.
Yes me and machines ...a marriage made in hell, its not a worry i understand outboards so time permitting i will look at it over the w/e
-

-
I got confused bbq beer canes cans its too much...think I will just bring a carry oot :) :) :) :) :)

-
I am just hoping I have a vehicle to go in.
Detective Chief Inspector Taggart took it away yesterday and its not back yet and on Monday its going into Uncle Arnold's to have a new heating console fitted so hope all goes to plan. ::)
Should have my new radio set up in the 110 before I head for the hills that is if I ever get it back. 8)
Trying to get the lights finished but as Doug says its p1cin down continuously. :)
Oh I have a shiny new 90 to use while the 110 is in the hospital. Its a flying machine same engine but no real weight. Pity about the plastic seats make you sweaty ;) ;)
-

Count me in coming down on Saturday morning (unless unplanned problem). Not sure about the details beyond that.
-
Great...see you there!! :)
-
Be Good to see you Cedric is your good lady coming
-
I don't think she'll come. Motoring days aren't exactly her thing. GRRs are already a stretch :D
-
Cedric,
I have the exact same response from my OH, at least you manage the GRR's and as to camping not a hope in hell of finding my missus in a tent unless she is visiting someone. :)
Tommy
-
Well my OH might along with a few friends grace us with her presence on Saturday night for the BBQ and wine and as I understand 3 adults and 2 teenagers so i might need a berth for the night lol :) :) :)

Hope it will still be ok for the tt,forecast for Friday is dry...ish, Gene will pm you re giving pps directions
-
eh think i will aim for a pitch up stream.........
No joking ! Our place was used as the "Base Camp" for the Lowe-Alpine Mountain marathon a few years back. They planned to pitch big marquees for the canteen and admin, asked me to lay on drinking water etc for 1000 folk camping. I had to ring them with 4 days to go to say the site chosen was under 2 ft of water, the river had burst its banks...
....we made it work in the end by finding a site the other side of the farm that was large enough for the marquees and "Start" with the runners tents pitched in 2s & 3s on every bit of flat ground for 1/2 a mile around..... Tight but it worked.
-
hmmm maybe a roof tent would be handy then? and a snorkel for the motor ;D
-
The river lol you could hope over it :) am sure wet or not Gene you will fit in a few landie misfits, take it you dont have much progress to report on your 90
-
Hope it will still be ok for the tt,forecast for Friday is dry...ish, Gene will pm you re giving pps directions

Looking at it on Google maps, it looks simple enough and turns are obvious.
My stay might need to be on the short side, I forgot about an invitation to a 30th birthday party on Saturday night that Melanie accepted for both of us a while back. So coming down early in the morning, then going back home for 7pm-8pm-ish with 3 hours driving both ways will make the day short :'( Unless I can get out of it, but not sure at the moment.
-
Once John and I give you the lessons on "wriggling out" you will be fine ;) ;)
-
Dont know about wriggleing diplomacy is always worth a try.
I bought some essentials for the trip 4 big pike flies...dont know if i will be able to cast well with them,no worries if we cant BBQ a pike a few burn trout be just dandy.
Doug is it not time you invested in a proper camp bed, before deflation gets the worse of you
-
have got an army camp bed but it doesnt cope with my 'ample body size' im sporting at the moment :-[ :-[ maybe thats why the last air bed surrendered with such a bang :-[
-
staw matt for you,yea canny burst it or fall through....the joys of the tt
-
staw matt for you,yea canny burst it or fall through....the joys of the tt
With the arrival of W's crew on Saturday the chances of you enjoying the TT are about as much as finding hobby horse manure :D :D

Bit concerned about the possible state of camp site after all this rain, wonder if Gene can get a report from home and update us
-
anyone tried sleeping in a 90 before? am wondering how to fit a bed in it........
-
What about your roof box?? ;D ;D ;D
-
Doug cut away central bulkhead...remember fit bar in place thereof remove cubby box and wayhay yon can stretch full out
-
I have slept in the back of the 110 just put a board across seats air bed dble and curl up....it was cold but comfy enough
-
Bit concerned about the possible state of camp site after all this rain, wonder if Gene can get a report from home and update us
Whats the fuss about its not as if we dont get rain in the west of Scotland ::) ::)
Whatever the weather or conditions throw at us I am sure that we will rise above them and enjoy the weekend, if its too bad then we can always book into the nearest hotel with Mr McEwan's credit card ;) ;)
Tommy

We'll be fine. Damp but fine.....
-
yeh i hope a certain someone has better footwear this time, slippers :o for camping ??? i know im packing my wellies lol(and flippers and snorkel ::)
-
The last I heard from Chris was on the 11th. He was planning to come, but was worried that he'd have to go somewhere on the Sunday so might have to cancel the camping.
-
sounds like chris's radar's not tuned in ;)
-
Think Chris might just be coming on the Saturday.
Whats happening about BBQ on the sat? Is it a 'share' BBQ or cook your own and converge in the TT if its raining? :) Has someone got a foldaway table to put everything on? Is everyone bringing something to throw on it ?
If its raining we can easily tie a taup or two across a couple of Landies, so no excuse if its raining!! :D
-
Neil,s bbq is to big to fit in landie along with my generator,I think if we all bring some coals and grills we can rig something up so we can all cook together.I will be bringing some meaty stuff in case there are no fish in the river ;)If we can all lay our hands on a few canes that would be good.
I will be getting over early Fri afternoon.
Look forward to seeing everyone, lets hope for decent weather
-
bringing my new bbq, its not the biggest, maybe 12" across. take turns lol
-

You can put the TT at the other end of the field :D :D
-
am all for fire but a wee corner with coals cooks a bit more even,it might run a bit on Sat night kids lap top big kids sounds, you driving up with me?
-
Left a message on your house phone, I intend leaving here about 8 or 8:30 and take a leisurely drive up maybe stopping in Callendar or Aberfoyle (depending on the route I take) for a wander about and pick up some vittels
If you want to meet up we need to find a spot where you can park the TT.

Does anyone fancy 4 hours fishing Friday evening on the loch cost ?12.50 each chance to get a trout or with right tackle big pike,no rowing required, let me know i will book it
-
Just done a recce, apart from a few soggy bits and the entrance to the field where the cows have ploughed it a tad, we'll be fine - But bring wellies & boots, trainers ain't going to cut it.... ;D.
Once folk decide where they want to be I can buzz about with the strimmer if needed. Lots of rushes in some places.
John, I'm now working from home tomorrow, managed to get both my visits done today, by leaving at Oh my God its Early this morning.... Had to stop beside the A66 on the way home for a kip ! Give me a bell when you get close.
G.
