200tdi struggles to start
« on: April 29, 2013, 10:05:55 AM »
I have a disco 200tdi in my defender and yesterday is struggled to start when hot
starter motor is down behind the turbo and below the exhaust manifold.
When is cold or left to cool it starts first turn of the key

Is the starter getting too hot?
engine to hot, expanding piston rings etc?
duff starter?

Any thoughts  ;D

Is it just slow to turn over or cranking at normal speed for a long time before firing?

Its quite slow compared to normal, when cold.
Like a flat battery slow!

I had this once before it was the bearing in the end of the starter at the engagement end. I worked some grease into it and that seamed to do the trick.

Hope this helps Bill
