chequer plates..baked on grime..help!
« on: August 22, 2012, 10:15:06 PM »
ok..not very technical but someone must know how to get them clean..without stripping the surrounding paintwork in the process! I really shouldn't have looked closely but the bonnet has a grimey dull look and the wing tops are shiny and now it's bugging me..pah! So..what takes it off...BTW fairy liquid may claim to cut through grease and grime but it bloomin well doesn't!!! I even tried the industrial car washing stuff neat....no joy...

all bright ideas here please!!!

oooh lots of options  :D Daz is something I have so I'll give that a bash first...think I'll give the wire brush on end of drill a miss though, there's enough actual repainting needing done without me adding to it!!!

cheers muchly folks  :)

Our local fireman reckons wire wool is best, and he's had plenty of practice. Try a Brillo pad

I once spilled that green stuff for fixing tyre punctures onto some galvanised metal. Made it shine a treat!

Autosol is great but it's a very long process and your fingers will be numb by the end of it! or as I found out after I finished put some on a old toothbrush and then rub it in!! :P it gives a great shine that lasts a long time

As mentioned before a Brillo pad is the thing to use will bring the dull alloy up a treat use it with water, used to use it on my old capri alloys. ;)
