Help whole land rover shakes
« on: May 23, 2012, 01:42:01 PM »
Hi I have a land rover discovery 1, the whole land rover started to shake at about 65mph, I got the wheels balanced and did not make any differance, next I fitted a Monroe steering damper now I can't get above 50mph the shaking has got that bad I have to slow down to about 40 to stop it, I have now fitted the old steering damper back on and I can get back up to 65 before it starts to shake but not as bad as with the new steering damper, HELP what do I check next ????

top and bottom bearings in the swivel and the swivel preload or just get a different axle

I had the same with a (am I allowed to say this?) Hilux Surf - I had the wheels balanced and it still did it, then I had them balanced again at a different tyre place and the shaking stopped.  Not all tyre places are the same (or competent) it turns out, so maybe worth getting a second opinion on the balancing?

I had the same in my Defender.

It was due to sagged front springs, twisting the axel.

Fitted new springs - Problem solved  8)

Mmmm  ???

Saying told you so wont make it any better, im still waiting on 2 top swivel pins to replace the ones that were sent in the kit that dont fit the bearings. but its only been since november so should be any day now.  :-\

So its a suspension and drivetrain overhaul then. should be all good after thats done.

good luck.
