Disco mpi power steering
« on: January 01, 2011, 06:53:47 PM »
Wendy was driving today heard a loud screeching sound and lost power steering.I assume the pump has failed however the battery warning light came on olso and has stayed on...why?

Is the replacement expensive and is it a garage job(remember its me)

3 bolts hold the pumps belt wheel on then its 3 bolts hold the pump to its bracket. 2 hydraulic pipes.
Very straight forward. Once back topgether tenstion belt and blleed sytem useing bleed nipple ontop of the steering box. Job done wait for next failure. ;D

Sounds like the belt that runs the P/S pump and the alternator, has failed, that would explain why the battery light stays on.

Hi mate. I'm not sure but isn't your waterpump driven off the belt too? I wouldn't risk it but I might be wrong. I don't know anything about the mpi though. Hope it's just a belt mate. Goodluck.
