Series 2a project
« on: November 17, 2010, 05:06:17 PM »
I  think this is going to end up as the longest thread possible as I continue to hunt for answers and tips...  :D

Re-wiring complete, except:
The wiper motor is a single unit driving a threaded bar to 2 wipers. Negative earth from 12v motor. Connector block  has 3 wires speed 1, 2 and nothing. any Ideas what i should be super fast, intermittant?
Also windscreen wash works, but what sort of switch is fitted to control wiper & wash? Has anyone got a spare lurking in the garage ???

What's the motor from?  If it's a 2a one it wouldn't have had either!

The motor doesn't seem to be original then. The series 2a's were only fitted with single speed wiper motor. I am guessing that yours is a bitsa setup. I would suggest that when wiring up a 3way switch wire it up to the accessories and not to constant power, also remember to put it on its own fuse.

The third wire might be the power to the motor to park the wipers when the switch has been cancelled

Just a thought

Hi Guys
Maybe out of a S3? It was allready fitted. My Haynes manual covers the mechanical side of this but electrics are described as a switch box.
Yep plenty of fuses in this landy.

Tried Tommy's idea but nothing.
Then I found the following...  I'm missing the change over & intermittant relay.

ENGINE WON'T START >:(
2.5na
Towed the car and engine fired up, so put it into garage About 30yrds driving. Seemed ok, not rough or smokey.
Since then  it has been rewired, replaced battery & new stop solenoid.
Turns over great, bled fuel filter, injector pump & pipes into injectors. OK
Check stop solenoid, even tried putting the old one back in, (which doesn't have the plunger)
Just won't fire ???
Any ideas what i can check?

Injectors = something which burns oil, yes?

If it started when you towed it and then you left it for a few days and now it won't then it could just be your glowplugs (pre-heaters) which are duff or not connected. Often a diesel will start without them if you crank it long enough however. Just don't trash the starter-motor doing it. As someone suggested, tow it again to see if it starts, this proves your solenoid and fuel is OK.

Calum.

When I loosen the unions at injectors, turn over the engine how much should be coming out a dribble or a jet?
I got the dribble. I seem to remember that the Lucas injector pump has a gauze. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Goint to drain  tank get fresh fuel and fuel filter.
Glow plugs all new and all getting 10v (bearing in mind there is a resitor before hand which is get 12v)

Not tried towing again as up on axle stands for brake bleeding and checking pads.

I know it sounds obvious but have you checked there is no water in the sedimenter.
I think a dribble is ok when cranking. When she fires up the pressure goes up.

Just emptied fuel filter and it wasn't good.
Drained the fuel tank and it's has a tide mark of gunge :'(
What's the best way to clean it?
I could remove it and get the super hot pressure washer.
Or am i better off with Engine Gunk / Parrafin or something else ???
