Yea gods. Taking that business plan to the bank took some nerve. Whats the market for a ?170 set of hinges ?

....then I remember paying WAY over the odds for LR genuine prats an'all  - ?50 for an exhaust bracket......

Hi,

I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago and have just come across this thread.

SmilingHound is my company and is based in Perthshire. We have be producing stainless hinges for a couple of months now, after 6 months of development, and the feedback has been fantastic.

It's early days yet as the company was set up to specialise in stainless parts, but we hope to add new products as we develop them.

Cheers, G

Good on you there are lots of people who like something just that little bit different, what price set of hinges for me 110 Club discount?

A set of 8 including fixings retail at ?330 + VAT. If there is enough interest i'd be happy to offer a club discount for SLROC members, first 5 sets sold through the forum/club 10%, and 5% thereafter. I'll also send ?5 per set to the club towards running the forum.

Thanks, we do offer the unfinished hinges which are proving popular but you need to factor in paint etc. The cost of the unfinished hinges is similar to genuine Land Rover if you consider that we chuck in the fixings FOC. Genuine LR are ?30 + VAT each, our unfinished are ?35 + VAT each including fixings.

Well good luck - Did I see a set of your hinges on display at Strathearn last week ?

You did. Joff Leckie has a set on his 110.

a set of  shiney series 2 hinges would look nice  :o

The plan is to have series 2 hinges ready next summer. We hope to offer both the plain and the military top hinge with wing mirror mounting holes. Although they will be intended for series 2, they will be designed to retrofit to Defenders.

Stainless upper tailgate for Range Rover!

Hopefully, in time, along with Discovery rear door hinges.

Thanks for the questions, please feel free to contact me off forum. I work throughout Perthshire, North Fife, Angus and Scottish Lowlands so would be happy to meet up during the day if anyone want to see them "in the flesh".

Thanks, G

Look nice well made not something i would personaly buy but reakon the immaculate landys will.
Funny end of the market i would imagine show landy rebuils will be your market? otherwise most folk just replace with cheap aftermarket as they are up to scratch these days? just a thought.
Damn nice though.  :).

Echoing Scott - I've just rebuilt my 90, with Britpart hinges and stainless bolts on new doors. The hinges were sprayed as part of the respray... within two months I've got rust coming out around the nice stainless bolts :-( because the hinges are just plain steel.

If I'd seen the plain stainless hinges at that ( ?35) price I'd have gone for them and ended up with a better job. C'est la vie.

Thanks. The market is hard to judge to be honest. Of all the sets i've sold i only know of 3 sets going on rebuilds and they were all unfinished hinges. The mirror polished hinges are actually quite subtle when fitted and are an easy bolt on replacement so they've proved popular for daily drivers and general use motors as well as shineys. I am putting a set on my hybrid as they have heavy duty pins (bigger diameter than standard) and can be repolished easily if the get scratched or bashed.

I can do part sets if you decide to change them again. Fitting a pair of polished top hinges only has proved popular as they replicate the shape of the TD5 standard hinge.

Many thanks for the kind words all. I hadn't really expected or wanted to "advertise" on here. Are admin ok with this thread?

Cheers, G
