Cheap Tyres
« on: August 03, 2010, 11:30:00 AM »
I'm  thinking of getting some new tyres(2 front & spare). Certainly before the vat goes up.
The truck  is currently fitted with 265 75 R16  BF Goodrich MT.
Does anybody know a good place to get tyres cheap? Camskill seem tobe pretty competetive. I have a freind you can fit & balance them.
I was looking at the Insa Turbo's  Dakar or Traction Track as the price is considerably less. Is there anything apart from price which should be influencing my choice ???

I recently got some General Grabber AT2's for the Sprinter from Camskill.  No one locally could touch them on price and the relatively cheap courier charge on four tyres.  Excellent service, ordered online 4pm and they arrived 2 days later.

Chears Mac
I have used them before when I had a slitty, and service was great even though I ordered the wrong size.

What about Insa Turbo tyres, are they any good?

got dakars on my 90. most times they can plow through mud i cant walk through lol, but once the treads fill up, thats it, no grip left. they do allow the motor to slide sideways on side slopes and dont have much of a shoulder, i found myself stuck in ruts a few inches deep, the tyres just refused to climb out. road use well they seem to do ok, seem to run fairly well. they are cheaper yes so maybe not as good as premium brands but if you were to rip a sidewall open on a rock they are just scrap rubber whether they cost ?70 or ?170. id rather pay ?70 myself lol.

I have a mate with the Insa tyres on and he swears by them. All through the heavy snow they were great and he is on the hill most days with the dog and very very occassionally needs help to get out. There are about 5 variations some of which are not road legal. A few wee points though, the road noise is high, they do effect the MPG and tend to skate a bit in heavy surface water.

You might want to think about KHUMO KL71's I had them on my 90 and they were very good. They came out top in a test carried out by LRO magazine (I think might have been LRM). I got a set of 4 for ?366 fitted and balanced by scouring the net, had to go to Glasgow to fit them but they were very effective in the mud and snow and pleasingly quiet on the road.
If your interested I can try and dig out the details.

BARGAIN TYRES TOBE HAD!
I got tyres straight from the Kingpin factory in Telford. I had someone near by who went in &  did the dealings. So if you know anybody near by it is well worthwhile.
They are re-moulds with same tread as the BF  Goodrich Mud Terrain but only cost ?45 each!

I have the Kingpin Amazon on the discovery and am very happy with them.  the road noise isn't anywhere near as bad as I got with my old Colway mud tyres.  From memory I paid about ?55 each tyre.
