Sender number 5 just fitted to try and get temp gauge to read correct ? This one came from Steve Parker who assured me its the right one !!

Okay fitted new sender but initially it was even worse , took it for a run and it went up into the red ( well almost ). Bearing in mind I have recently fitted a new heater matrix I checked hoses, both at heater were very hot, top radiator hoses warm/hot but bottom hose cold, released radiator cap , slowly and water came out ?
But temp gauge had dropped a little to between norm and the red.

Then a strange thing happened , it was lead to believe that if you park vehicle with the nose uphill this helps air escape via expansion tank. As I turn the vehicle and placed nose uphill, the temp gauge dropped right down to the normal position !!!!! And it dropped quickly,I have left it ticking over with cap off, now both top and bottom hoses are warm , heater hoses hot, heater working ,

Sorry to be a nuisance but don't want to run and damage something,

what engine/ vehicle combination?
i had this issue i bought a gauge and sender kit complete from mgill motorsport on ebay for about fifteen quid, fitted straight into my defender dash

Hi piper5,

It's a 1989 defender 90 with an early 200 TDI discovery engine, I was trying to avoid replacing gauge as I am told that's not required but it looks like I might have to do that,

Been told to run a new wire from sender to gauge in case I have a fault in the wiring ?

mine is an 87 with a 300tdi fitted, originally a2.5 na i tried various senders but couldnt get it to work, you really need the original sender from whatever the vehicle used to be, problem is they dont fit the hole.
