Comp Newbie
« on: February 18, 2013, 10:05:20 PM »
Hi,

I’m interested in competing in comp safaris and would appreciate some help starting out.

I’ve done some off roading (RTVs and Tuareg Rally 2011) in a Defender 90 and attended a couple of comps a few years back but never raced.  I no longer have the Defender so am on the lookout for a suitable car.  I’m checking ebay and AWDC website.

Does anyone know of any comp racers for sale in Scotland?  I’m looking for something not too wild and ideally <£5k.  Land Rover based would be good because that’s what I know.

I’m about to send my application for a License – is Non-Race Clubman correct for comps?

Thanks for your time,
Malcolm

License - yes: Non-race Clubman is just fine.

In terms of vehicles, I can't help you..... however I'd steer you towards an ALRC vehicle rather than something "odd"

Look for the user "portnellan" - he's upgraded from a 90 to a tomcat, so the 90 might be for sale...

Don't buy a cheap shed.... you'll spend twice as much getting it back together.

Hi Malcs, welcome.
Would you be interested in a 3.5 V8, 88".  This has been laid up in my garage since Glendearg 2009 as I haven't been able to compete since then.
