after some research

Multi-point fuel injection
Multi-point fuel injection injects fuel into the intake port just upstream of the cylinder's intake valve, rather than at a central point within an intake manifold. MPFI (or just MPI) systems can be sequential, in which injection is timed to coincide with each cylinder's intake stroke; batched, in which fuel is injected to the cylinders in groups, without precise synchronization to any particular cylinder's intake stroke; or simultaneous, in which fuel is injected at the same time to all the cylinders. The intake is only slightly wet, and typical fuel pressure runs between 40-60 psi.

Many modern EFI systems utilize sequential MPFI; however, in newer gasoline engines, direct injection systems are beginning to replace sequential ones.

I note that they are standard on Skoda's ;D ;D

Hi John, I have had my MPI for many years now and there is really nothing much to worry about. It's a pretty simple engine. I have just had my fuel pump replaced and new coil packs fitted but they were original so not bad for 16 years and 102,000 miles. The guy who fitted them commented on how nippy the MPI was. I have had the timing belt done, it is not a big job and given the acres of space around the engine most jobs are no problem.
What to look out for? I waxoil the chassis and underbody once or twice a year since Disco's will corrode if left to the elements so it's worth doing. Lift the carpet in the back and check your floor, I still have the original in mine but at this age I have seen some that were quite far gone. There is a rubbery underlay between the floor and the carpet and it can hold moisture. Best chucked out. Also worth renewing old window rubbers in the alpine windows and side windows, if the inside is dry, your floor will last fine.
Hope you enjoy the new toy!!
Stan

As I said its nippy certainly better at overtaking than the 110,and as it wont get many long runs fuel not to big a worry, probably do 6miles a day to the farm.

I have discovered the belt was changed 22k ago so thats good, still I would like the engine checked over but dont know a garage in Paisley that would have any knowledge of these, can anyone recommend Glasgow or surrounds nearer better

John, any garage who do Rovers will know this engine as it was also used in Rover saloons - the 820 I think, and maybe others.
