SIII - Stub Axle
« on: July 20, 2011, 09:35:36 AM »
I hope some one can help me.
I am rebuilding the right hand swivel on my SWB SIII (1972) and cannot work out what stops oil from the swivel leaking out of the stub axle tube along the stub shaft and out at the drive flange.
You may say go with one shot grease, but I am not keen.  The swivel was filled with one shot, and it was in poor condition internally, with wrecked UJ (all the UJ roller pins were in the grease).  So I am planning on refilling with oil.
The drive flange is also round rather than star shaped and I am not sure if this is an issue, because according to the parts catalogue for my year it should be star shaped.
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Clive

There should be a felt seal below the castellated nut I think Clive and then a paper gasket between the hub and drive flange.

Hi mate what stan says is correct for up to 1980 but sounds like you have the drive flange from a later vehicle which has an o ring (rtc3516) the gasket for the flange is the same for both (231505) .

hope this helps

cheers Iain
