TD5 Brake lines
« on: October 05, 2010, 08:14:56 AM »
Hello peeps.

I am going to change out all the brake lines on my 2001 TD5 Defender. Can anyone giver me a list of the fittings that I will require. I am presuming it will be 3/16 tubing.

Thanks.

Is it not worth getting brake pipes sent through from
www.llama4x4.co.uk
Dave is very good on price & does what ever length you require,
or are you changing 'all' brake piping not just flexi?

No need to be stuck for long.

Hi there.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I am changing all the lines hard and soft. I have never done the brakes lines before and was wanting to get all the correct sized fittings and copper pipe before I start. I have noticed that some of the old steel lines are corroded in places and can see when I do one it will leed to the next and so on. and from experiance am sure will end up changing the t pieces and so on cause I wont be able to split the unions. So its for a full replcment.

Cheers

Rod,
You'll need a length of 3/16" tubing. Copper's the easiest to work with. Also some 10mm male and female brake fittings. I'd also buy some double female adaptors, as it's sometimes easier to do pipes in two lengths instead of the one that Landrover use, especially the one that goes from front to rear. You will need the two front flexi hoses and the rear one. The tee piece which splits to either back wheel depends on whether you have abs or not. I'd buy four bleed nipples if you aren't changing the calipers.
So:
Tubing 3/16" copper
10mm male connectors
10mm female connectors
10mm double females
Two front flexis
Rear flexi
Rear tee piece
4X bleed nipples
A good double flaring tool
Brake Fluid

Hope that helps
Geoff

PS All that stuff's available on ebay or Vehicle Wiring Products.
