No ignition lights.
« on: September 29, 2012, 06:40:59 PM »
Went to start the landy today,
No ignition lights,
All other lights, indicators, horn wipers all work
Oil pressure lights comes on, but no battery lights,
Tried the booster, incase it was the battery, still nothing
Checked the wires, fuses, earth wires.
Could the alternator be goosed?

What kind of car is it? 90/Disco/Rangie/Freelander? Petrol or Diesel? Did it turn over, or is it totally dead? Immobiliser fitted?

It's a 90 with 200tdi disco fitted and it's totally dead.
You can only head the relay click behind the fuses. :'(

So it's just clicking like a dead battery? Have you checked the wiring from the ignition barrel that's behind the dash, maybe something has worked loose? Or a wire going to the starter maybe worked loose somehow?

Don't you just love electrical problems...... :o!

Sadly a wee bit too far away or I'd have come up with the multi-meter and see what kinda readings you're getting.  :-\

Just to clarify, the engine isn't turning over when you turn the key? Is the starter motor cable hot after you try starting it? Or the starter motor istelf hot?
Let's assume that the circuit is fine between the key and the relay, if you're getting a click there, so I'd suggest looking between the relay and the starter motor for faults?
Have you checked the solenoid on the starter motor? Might be seized?
Or maybe try a different relay, might be something as simple as the relay being knackered?
