Just wondered if anyone has been to Glentarkie,Lamancha, etc and if so how was it
-
Lamancha - years ago - lots of places to get stuck - awffy cold . . .
-
Just a thought,
but must ask,
was it a warm day everyplace else,
but unseasonably cold at Lamancha?
It can be very warm there sometimes in the summer
& even pleasant when elsewhere is cold.

I am a member at glentarkie as challenging as you want to make it with good banter from the guys

As Bill says, and we never seem to get past the same mud hole on our Friday jaunts lol
Well worth the years membership fee.
Regards
Ross
-
One thing to add handy you can go up anytime so doesnt interfere with any club events.
And yes that mud hole is usualy where i end up lol ;D
Cheers
Bill

lamancha: its too near penicuik so it shares the same microclimate. plenty space although (least when i was last there 8 months ago) it was large but not that well structured. sure of a warm welcome though and if you go along for the midnight manouvre weekends its a great weekends fun. good value around ?20 a day.
glentarkie: smaller site but well structured, well laid out. its for members, although courtesy of ross we have enjoyed several trips there on a pay and play basis. if work would only calm down a bit id be very tempted to join. very good site.
shandon: been there once courtesy of james and alex. was in the freelander yet apart from some branches scratching the paint a wee bit it was no damage even to a freebie. very hilly site but with bonus you get a cracking view over the sea
-
Forgot to mention Drumclog. Only been once though and thought it was massive. Got recovered so just a normal day at the office for me. Hopefully someone else can give a more constructive write up lol
-
Drumclog's a crackin playground, plenty of mud and places to get stuck, even in a D3 ;D ;D Huge area and huge variety, all for ?20 a day. The pipe is challenging even in the dry, but not for anything you value your paintwork in, search in you tube for the pipe at drumclog, plenty of videos there.
-
..................and places to get stuck, even in a D3 ;D ;D
You could get stuck in Tesco's carpark in your D3 ;D ;D
See you at Torpichen big chap ;) ;)
-
Sainsburys perhaps but not Tesco :o :o
Yup will be there on Sunday, you'll find me stuck somewhere, away diving at the Garvellachs so won't be over Friday or Saturday.
-
Now we all know about these sites is anybody up for a pay and play day ??
-
was it a warm day everyplace else,
but unseasonably cold at Lamancha?
Colder than other places on way there and back. Microclimate can be + or - . We got - I guess. Happy to go back!
-
My vote would be for Drumclog, you can also camp there by arrangment.
-
i'll go for that, when?
-
Now we all know about these sites is anybody up for a pay and play day ??
heck yeh :D :D
-
Ok guys we need possible dates and venues then we could call a vote .
How does that sound??
Cheers Bill
-
count me in. if i can sort out shifts, id be there ;D
-
If I can get wheels I'm up for it..
-
I will only go if certain criteria are met, no abuse when I get stuck. No comments about my odd landy. lots of congratulations when I get up hills no one else does instead of being left up there......I'm sure I can think of more lol ;D
Count me in, the previous get togethers were hilarious and it would be good to meet up again.
-
Sorry mate your demands are to high lol :P
-
How about 18th or 19th of september plenty of notice and doesnt clash with club stuff??
Obviously should mention this is not a club event
But should be alot of fun none the less!!
now any sugestions for a venue???
-

sorry ross corrected your post for you ;) ;)
-
lmao :P
-
18th/19th sounds good, Drumclog would get my vote, but where are these other places?
-
I have been to most sites plus Eastnor castle, northern sites and southern.Driven in various parts of the world off road.I have found most to be good fun.Lamancha is my closest, they have a good site,as have others, they have a certified land rover instructor, resident qualified medical staff, toilets, camping. They also have of road karting,a clay pigeon layout ,canadian canoes and much more.I was recently involved in one of their charity events .They do 4x4 instruction and I am told "midnight manouveres " are a thing of the past. AS far as structured I guess jumbo is looking for bus stops every one hundred metres or so in case he gets lost.Lamancha is NOT on a bus route doug.I think pay and play sites are becoming stricter and many are closing their doors to clubs like the slroc.I believe you must take instruction before venturing off road, many clubs provide this as part of the membership. Now off to the highlands as a guest of one of the clubs.
The joys of being a farmer, they have most of the land to enjoy
-
Now the front axile is fixed properly to the rest of the the landie I would love to go any where is good for me.
-
farmer, tom has obviously got his finger out and turned the site into what he had dreamed (think hes been there some 20 years now) certainly when i was there around a year ago it had none of the facilities mentioned. tom had a couple of karts but the track wasnt laid out. im glad hes turned the place into a well organised site. it was great place. john and myself went for one of thier weekend events and the folk we met, never seen them before in our lives yet we were made so welcome. its very local for me, i for one would like to have a trip back to see how its changed.
certainly wish tom and phil every success with this as they deserve it
-
Dates are ok. Im easy as I'm smack bang in the middle between Lamancha or Drumclog and will go with the majority.
BTW, I still have the L plate from the last driving day, so you better watch out. It'll be like playing scabby queen to see who ends up with it last lol
take care
Ross

MAGNETIC 'l' plate, landies have ALUMINIUM bodies.....oh well recon it will stay on the j**p ;)
-

I never knew that.....so where does the rust come from that you keep talking about!?!
-
I am up for it Drumclog is handy but if the vote goes for Lamancha be as Doug says happy to revisit,of course all subject to getting 110 sorted.
PS yes Doug will take tt cant hear u snore...well not as much
-

electrolite my friend. when aluminium and steel meet. just stay away from our bumpers and rear crossmember with they magnets ;)
-
Shrifty!!! you ask about Lamancha in how was it but I've seen you up hear with the boys at least twice and camping. Did you get lost?
-
Although SLROC club members, it is not a club event and we cannot say that it is. I know this as I organised the Glentarkie trips for members and it was pointed out to me that I could not use the SLROC name by a committee member. Personaly I had no issue with this as it is more about the getting together and having some fun.
-
mentioned the usual suspects here. anyone been to another site, maybe less well known? think there was a site near dunbar off the a1. anyone been there? what is it like?
-
If there is a problem with lamanch what about drumclog. Nice people very welcoming called them today and they said the more the merryier!!!
Does any body else fancy that the 18/19th september
Cheers Bill
-
Yes to dates and to Drumclog, although you may need to pull me out now and then ;D
Is this thread back on track now ??? ???
-
I hope so ;D
Which date would be preferable 18th or 19th??
-
Bill
I would be up for Drumclog, either day would be okay for me.
I know RossM tried to find out if you could pay and play and Newton Hill Off Road near Wormit but I don't think he had any luck finding out, anyone else used the site or have contacts there?
Chers
Luke
-
Tay 4 x 4 Club were at Newton Hill on 25th July contact was Angus Binnie on 07778 422 581.
Cheers.
-
http://www.newtonhillatv.co.uk/main.htm ??
is that run over the Corrieyairack Pass actual 'offroad' or is it more green road standard? it would be worth a visit just for that.
as for dates i know am meant to be working the saturday 18th, havnt checked the 19th yet, will do that today. but if everyone is up for this weekend it still gives me time for lieu days ;D ;D
-
There was an off road driving school off the a1 near Abbey St bathans iirc. It was not pay & play and just for lessons. Wish I could remember the guys name.
I would like to see Drumclog again and will pencil in the 19th for towing the tank out ;)
-
that must be the place im thinking of. oh well what a shame we are soooo good we dont need lessons ;)
strangely enough any time the tank gets 'temporarily imobile' the mere sight of the j**p and a rope is enough to get it moving again ;D ;D note: lamancha bog up near the trees :D :D when i did my 3 point turn :P
-

It's the best recovery devise I know for landys, just the sight of me and a tow rope has drivers frantically shaking the steering wheel and reving the engine one more time lol
and if it still doesn't work the first thing you do is check there are no camera's about before hitching up to me. ;D

Ronnie Dale is the name you are looking for. Huge site, we did some 4x4 training there through work about 6 years ago - he was excellent.
If there is an invitation open to come along to whatever you all organise I would be interested but time is tight for me just now with relatives in hospitals to visit. I've not long finished an engine swap on my series so would be good to test it out a bit.
Cheers,
Martin.
-
Last time we went to Glentarkie with the club, they had a pressure washer available free to use. A good, big site with lots of varied terrain.

Is that a dig :-[ :-[ :D
Either day is good for me, and I'm sure I can drag a Jeep driver along as well to make up numbers

-
Winch is working again, but as of now the only thing it;'s been used for is shoving dirt :D
Maybe it can come out to play this weekend.

Lol I hope to at the rtv on the Saturday. I don't think I'll make Sunday. First time competing since March I think. Gives me an excuse for a new high score!
-
eh ross, a wee trade secret. its not a competition to see who gets the HIGHEST score
i hate to disapoint you lol but its really LOWEST score that wins :D :D
-
We definately don't want a recovery like this though
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJA3J--g_yI
-
eh certainly hope no one in this club would recover like that :o :o
try a winch and take it a foot or less at a time. this lot just took the motor out a piece at a time. crazy!!!
-
after watching dave T's you tube site . I am glad "stage recovery " is around.Maybe the club should give instruction in safe recovery.
-
It was nae me........ ;D ;D
-
Recovery as stage recovery will agree is a dangerous game if not carried out safely. Those involved were lucky, see if you can spot the potential what if dangers. What if the car had rolled on someone, what if the rope had snapped, what if? the dangers are endless. The impossible is sometimes as dangerous as the obvious..I am glad to see it wasnae Dave T
-
OK guys we are booked for drumclog 19th september start at 9ish their is an event running on site starts at 10 but we are more than welcome to join in. Just need a list of names so i can tell them numbers.

What a great day out, especially as it was a first outing in my new defender. Cracking trails through the woods which I think were new to everyone, awful narrow gaps between some of them trees :o :o
Loads of photos here

cheers tommy1, broke camcorder in the same way lol, could keep you busy...... ::)

Gutted I missed it :'(
Had a great day in the office answering phones and youtube
Next time
-
....missed it an'all. Frustrating day on Sun, still messing with the electrics. Lights all OK but the rear wash/wipe was inop when I bought it - and no wonder, melted switch and lots of burnt wire, luckily it does not seem to have taken any of the other circuits with it.
Wired up the lights using the proper econoseal connectors. They look fiddly but are actually surprisingly easy to assemble and make a proper "professional" looking job.
