wierd starting prob

wierd starting prob

hi all any ideas ? my 200tdi is taking an eternity to start in the mornings all of a sudden ,as soon as it fires up it runs spot on and will then start all day with a quarter turn of the key i've replaced the glowplugs and made no diffrence they are getting 12 volts on the pre heat so dont think its them are they known for diesel to run back overnight ? if so how do i go about checking this thanks in advance

yep sound like fuel running back usually sedimenter on the rear chassis or corroded pipes on the fuel sender under the boot floor hatch
presuming its a disco?

i'd go with the above, happened to me on a 200Tdi disco, The corroded pipes had split the plastic bit on top of tank

cheers guys but i should have said its a defender !/90 6 month old fuel tank new pick up pipe /sender ect still think you could be on the right lines though will check all pipes ect over weekend will let you know how i get on

Hi Kev, another few things to check are, is the glowplug relay working, if you put the ignition on you should hear it click off around 15 to 30 sec later,
If not then new plugs wont be getting feed. I have also had the fuel filter alloy head go porous before and cause a similar problem.
Maybe none of these just tryn to think of things other than mentioned.

hi mate i've taken a meter to the plugs and they get 12v on pre heat also as soon as its started it runs spot on would a porus filterhead let air in all the time or does it sound like your prob cheers

little update started landy this morning as usuall a bit of turning over let it idle for around 30 secs then switched off left it for 5 hours then started it with only 5 seconds of heater plugs and started right away so i'm thinking the fuels running back overnight so i've ordered a full set of fuel pipe to replace the lot i'll see what that does and let you know  :-\

lift pump diaphragm could do that as well
