8) Hi any one seen this no real info at mo but will be great if it goes ahead
10th & 11th April - Landrover Owners Show Knockhill see here 4th one down :D :D
http://www.knockhill.com/events/car-racing-events.php
-
Looks good the club should think about having a stand at this
-
It looks like this will sadly clash with club events
-
Pity this Knockhill thing happens to be on at the same time as our annually biggest attended event, the Bathgate driving day, so the choice is get out there, get muddy and use your Landy at one of the best events of the year, or pay for parking and an entry ticket just to stand around and talk about it ???
I know what I would rather be doing!!
-
I have contacted Knockhill regarding this and awaiting reply on costs etc,

It's an interesting dilemma: do you go to a show which is about your favourite vehicle, or go and play with your favourite vehicle?
I'm bemused that the organisers of a Scottish show dedicated to Land Rovers has not been in touch with the Scottish Owners Club for Land Rovers - but maybe that's actually an indication of the target audience for the show: The well-heeled; the City Slicker; the School-Run 4x4, the Shiny-Shiny Bling-Bling.... not the mud-plugging, spanner-wielding, tinkerer of the older cars.
I do think that the club should try to have a stand there, possibly with a couple of cars around.
Perhaps the Saturday show attendees would love to know about the club, and the fact we hold events where they can go and drive off-road... and would turn up at the Driving Day on the Sunday.
(and I'm sure the Hill Rally Club would love to join us... to promote the Hill Rallies to the masses ;D )
-
As i said i have approached them and awaiting a email in regards to the show.
Ian when i hear i will give you a phone as i think it would be good if the hill rally club joined us in this. It's a case of watch this space

Live is the company who now run the Billing show for LROi and a good job they make of it, so it should be a good show. As Ian says, the Saturday show-goers may turn up on Sunday at Bathgate if we have a presence there.
geoff :)

there seems to be 2 weekends free before this event, and theres still 3 months to go. could the club not consider changing its driving day to one of these free weekends, allowing the club and its members to support this show? theres not a lot of landrover shows in scotland, (most of the time it means looking out passports to cross the border and head south) and its pretty convenient for most folk, about as central as you can get.
even better if they expect the 'bling bling, school run motors' am sure theres one or two motors in this club that are slightly modified (deliberately or otherwise ;) ) let them see what REAL landies look like. admitedly it could be more usefull to have the driving day AFTER this show, put on a good stand at this show and just maybe we could get some new blood (or oil ::) ) in the club.
seems strange this event wasnt spotted sooner, before the anual programe was decided, unless the show wasnt made public till recently
-
There is no information about show only dates, that is why i have approached knockhill, as for not being spotted earlier i do not read the magazine that is hosting the show so how was i supposed to know as i was only informed about it last night. but i am dealing with it now.

i'll have to see if i can organise a series 2 scotland club stand there ;)
-
I think putting on a stand the same weekend as bathgate might be streching club resources a bit thin of course we might get a few pls along to the driving day but on the other hand if we support the show we might be down on members attending our biggest event. As for dougs idea a lot of work goes into running the weekend ANSI am sure it's in everyones diary
-

The Knockhill events list was not made public until recently.
Mind you, we also need to be aware of all the other motorsports events happening in Scotland, and there are over 40 motorsports clubs in the Scottish Association of Car Clubs... and that's a lot of places to watch.
Do you know if there is a Motorshow at Lanark this year? Or Perth?

How many people are you expecting at the Driving Day?
The club has 400+ members, and we have a wide and varied range of interests.

Oh, absolutely.... as everyone has every Comp Safari listed as a Must Go To event? ::)
(Sorry - that sounds narkier than it meant to... what I mean is that some of us are more interested in other aspects of Off Roading, and would be happy to talk to random punters as opposed to playing in the mud all day... each to our own :D )
-
just weighing up, i know bathgate is always popular (believe the numbers regularly top 100 motors) it was my first driving day all those (2) years ago. always brings lots of CURRENT members along for what is certain to be a great weekend. but if theres a chance to broaden our appeal to new members surely that is worth considering. most of these shows are down south yet with one on our doorstep surely the scottish landrover club could be there. sandy can re-arrange grr at short notice (sometimes with only a week or 2 notice) yet they always get a strong turnout. regulars know bathgate is a good site and will make every effort to attend, would be a shame if they had to choose which they came too.
if knockhill have not made this public sooner, its a shame, and bad press on thier part.
personaly i dont want to miss the driving day, its always a good time to catch up with folk and get muddy at the same time but be a shame to miss a chance to see a local show as well
-
Perhaps a little clarification is required in this matter. The organisers of this show did not approach the club, Sharon, our PR officer, only found out about it by chance.
seems strange this event wasnt spotted sooner, before the anual programe was decided, unless the show wasnt made public till recently
Personally I think that is a bit of an obvious mistake on the organisers part by not contacting the national owners club for the vehicle that the show is all about.
Sharon is working very hard at the moment to find out what, if any, contribution we can make to the show, indeed we don't even know yet if they want us there, so it is a little premature to start suggesting that the club should be shuffling about our well organised calander, to support someone elses event, especially given that the Club event in question is our biggest one of the year. Please also bear in mind that this weekend would involve moving two Championship events, MSA permits have been applied for, safety cover arranged, and, perhaps most importantly, this is the date that suits the landowner as, amongst other reasons, we are not the only people that use that site and he has several hundred head of livestock to move for our driving pleasure, these are not things that have to happen on a GRR!
Please let Sharon do her job and if the Club can do something at the show, I am sure you will all give her the support she needs when the jobs need filling, and not just for the free tickets either!
-

Sometimes happens, Alan. Just ask Eck (The Drover) McCormack regarding Balquhidder GRR August 2008!!
Geoff :P

Geoff
Difference is Bathgate is a Weekend event with a camping site, GRR is a 1 day drive through property, Talking from experience as from a farming back groound and having the club up for weekend events at the farm in years gone by, it's not a case of just moving livestock in to another field planning is involved.
Bathgate weekend will not be getting moved, as dates agreed with farmer etc.

Personaly i dont want to miss the driving day, its always a good time to catch up with folk and get muddy at the same time...
And neither you should!
A stand at the show only needs two or three people. Let those who have a desire to do that sort of thing get on with doing that sort of thing, and you go play!
(or, to put it another way: we want your dosh, so go to the driving day :D :D )
-
be honest, you want me at the driving day so you can practice recovery techniques lol ;)

hi, normaly they leave a coridor fenced off only for caravans to get out. obviously the rest of the road in will get chewed up with the amount of motors but the coridor should stay ok
-
Hi
the bathgate weekend is perfect for the tintent i have seen caravans there that are weeks old

UPDATE ON THE SHOW
I have recieved word back from the organisers regarding the show. i have been asked by the organisers to fill in a proposal form. i have put this to the committee and asked Alan agnew to have a read through this as he has knowledge this from previous shows. I will keep you all updated on any decisions or feedback that i recieve,
thanks
Sharon

Proposal form and letter has been submitted to Live promotions who is the organiser of the event.
Sharon

It's strange that the show doesn't appear on Live's list of 2010 events. On various Land Rover forums, a Scottish show has been asked for, and it would be a shame to pass this opportunity up. Several years ago there were shows at Broxburn, Fenwick and Knockhill and they were fairly popular, but not just Land Rover shows.
geoff :)

UPDATE ON THE SHOW!!!!
Our proposal for a stand at the scottish landrover show on the 10th and 11th at knockhill has been accepted and confirmed. There is a committee meeting on Thursday night so the show will be discussed at the meeting, I will keep everyone posted on whats happening.

that says you will be at knockhill
-
yes,but if you look at the dates,it was only yesterday that i found out ???
-
I had to email the event organisers to ask if the event was cancelled. I have recieved a email back saying it has been cancelled and i have replied asking for the reasons behind it being cancelled. I will let you all know when i recieve word back.
Sharon
-
:)well Sharon thats you free to help with club shop on Sunday 8)
-
I don't think so John
-
I had an email regarding the event, and it would seem that there had been a mix up with the dates or something, so Live have cancelled the show this year rather than have a second rate event, and are planning to return with a better show in 2011.
Geoff :)
-
I was looking forward to it, and I think it may even help to raise the profile of the event by giving themselves a year to publicise it better, I dodn't hear about it until the beginning of this year, whereas they should have considered including it in programmes of the major shows prior to it, as well as insertions into event listings well in advance.
-
hi, i phoned knockhill today after reading a flyer that my mate got, which shows the landrover show is now going ahead a bit later in the year, it is to be held on the same weekend as the scottish drifting championship, this was confimed by knockhill today, so we have plenty time to plan for it. cheers, bob.

I believe this is true, possibly the end of September from memory?
-
25/26 September accourding to the Live Promotions website.
What happens at these events? I take it there is an off road section, is that a buy your ticket and play all day or ???????
-
That's a shame, as we have a GRR planned for the 26th Sept. Guess we'll just have to make do with Billing then in July :)
geoff ::)
-
Guess it'll be the show on Saturday and the GRR on Sunday ::)
geoff :)
-
Is the Club still intending to have a stand at the show as we were when it was promulgated for April??
geoff ???
-
This show is still advertised on Live's website, but I don't see it on Knockhill's, so I wonder if it's cancelled. As Geoff(jnr) said at Billing, we can't see all those traders coming up to Scotland for a weekend.
geoff

I emailed Knockhill and received the following reply:
"Hi Geoff
Unfortunately Live Promotions have cancelled the LRO show here in
September. We hope to host the event in 2011.
Many thanks

So, no show at Knockhill this year. Hopefully 2011 then.
