Post by: sardass on September 22, 2010, 04:22:00 AM
hi the alternator on my disco 1 keeps blowing the dash fuse so i loose speedo, rev counter and temp gauge, currently running it with the cable on the back of the alternator off, any ideas why this is doing this

Dodgy Regulator?  It's the half moon plastic unit in the back of the alternator.

Hi,
Which cable have you disconnected on the alternator? If the Brown/Yellow wire was shorting it would keep the charge light on but not blow any fuses. If it was the White/Silver wire(rev counter pulse signal) I think it's unlikely to blow a fuse, more likely to just stop the rev counter working but worth checking anyway as I don't know if the internal circuits in the rev counter would allow a short circuit, possibly a fault in the rev counter itself.
Keep us posted how you get on.
 cheers,
           Stevie.
