Looking for tips on improving Defender headlights
« on: December 29, 2013, 05:41:32 PM »
Hi all - just wondering if anyone can recommend any upgraded headlamps for a 1999 Defender TD5 without electric headlamp adjustment?

Thanks - Dave

This will be the set up I'm going for, I've seen Greg's and they are bright compared to the yellow excuse I have!

Thanks very much guys - that'll be the second job in the new year. The first is to silicone up those blasted leaking rear sliding windows!

Another vote for the Wipac crystal bowls.

I put the top rated halfords H4's in because they were 2 for 1 at the time, 120%brighter or somthing. Certainly do a decent job, the nightbreakers I have also heard many good things about.

FWIW dodgy HID kits are too much police attention grabbing for me and also are a real arse to look at coming the other way. I would sooner risk 80/100W and be done with it  ;)

Still think it's the cheapest best upgrade you'll ever do on a defender

Lol......I thought, with the amount of rivers I go through the LED's wouldn't last long. Is that a real excuse? or am I dodging the truth  ;D ;D

I believe its also worth checking the voltage  at the headlight , with the older vehicles there can be a marked drop due to crappy fuse holders, lighting switches ,wiring etc .   I have added 2  relays to supply the dip and
main beam circuit and taken the supply to power them direct from the alternator output terminal (via fuse).

My other point is that the Wipac units seem to have a sharp cut off on dip , main is great.....
