Galvanizing Chassis?
« on: April 10, 2012, 07:15:39 PM »
Hi I have recently had a Quote from Scottish Galvanizers Ltd to get my chassis Shot Blasted then Galvanized.

The total was £260 + VAT which i think is a steal! seeing as a new Galvanized chassis would cost around £1600+

Has anyone ever used this company before?

Have a look at HighLand Galvanisers, Cumbernanuld. I have used both and Highland are cheaper.

Can you really in 2012 get a Land Rover 110 chassis Shot/bead blasted in preperation & then galvanised for £312  including the VAT.
(or for even less possibly)
plus the obvious additional cost of delivery and collection over and above that?

I can not imagine how they can make any profit at that price allowing for the labour costs/material costs alone on the Blasting/galvanising.

A replacement 90 chassis already galvanised is around 150kg i believe.

Tom is doing a Disco chassis i think, 100" wheelbase.
so it might be around that weight before dipping. (150kg)

A 110 chassis might be around 190kg-200kg possibly before galvanising, due to the deeper chassis than a Disco.

Does someone actually know the correct weights?

we use them alot Paul at Scottish Galv is good only thing you need to make sure of is when you drop it of ask them to check over the chassis after shot blasting to check no holes have come through as the pressuse of the blast can bring out things you didnt see. because of the shear volume of metal they do they dont do this as normal practice and if you have not specifically asked you may end up with a nice galvy chassis with holes in!!!    Also i have two disco one chassis here a 200 and a 300 both will be stripped welded and ready hopefully by end of month.

hope this helps
