Title: Window Fitting defender
Post by: ruaritreble on June 02, 2010, 10:27:42 AM
Just fitted a window to the back door and the 2 wee windows either side. Whoop Whoop the tin  plate is away & I cansee now.
For the wee windows there is a small beed whichgoesinside andcompress the rubber. Is there anytricks to fitting this? ???

The fitters use a wee wire triangle with a handle which, dragged along the gap, opens up the rubber to let the bead in. I found that a small blunt chisel, angled "the wrong way" so it does not cut the rubber was pretty good in lieu. Just open up the gap with a similar implement and feed the bead in a bit at a time  - and washing up liquid makes a great lubricant, makes it all slide about a lot better, so you can whiz along pretty fast. Be careful not to cut the bead until its all in and settled. It streches when going in .....then shrinks back a bit once in place.

I keep being held back by the local paint shop bloke. He has about a 6 week backlog.....then I got sent on a course for two weeks so could not deliver it in....now he's moving house so not working for a week.  :( . Seems fated. Here we are in June now, the accident was 4 months ago.

But...should be going in for the unbending of the rear tub and respray this weekend, new/replacement panels going in once he's done that.  I'm taking the opportunity, while the panels are off, to de-rust and zinc paint all the bits you cannot usually get at.

G.
