A trader down south, is he authorised by the Club to sell the badges?
-
These are nothing to do with SLROC.
-
Dean what do you mean? This is exactly the same badge I bought from the club about twenty years ago.

There was a stall at the LR Peterborough show last year that had all sorts of club badges
-
As there are no Trademarks or patents filed in the name of SLROC, the seller does not need authorisation from the club.
-
Even searches on the Internet for "SLROC" usually come back with Southern Land Rover Owners Club.

Intellectual Property Rights are a little more complicated than that!

Pursuing IP rights or not is the Club Management's decision to make.
Chairman Dean has made it clear that these badges are not SLROC.

Just a wee bit of history here.
Badge on left is original 60s badge from Birmingham Medal Co. One on right is genuine club issue early 80s.
-
What I meant was the club have not asked anyone to produce these badges at present. The club does not benefit from the production of these badges in anyway (especially financially). And the club will not be responsible when they fall apart and the paint drops off.
The Land Rover logo itself will be copywrite / trademark, etc, so unless the producer of these badges has explicit consent from JLR they will be in breach of that.
As a member club of ALRC the original LR company does give the clubs authority to use the logos for (non-profit) club activities and the "current" LR companies have always honoured that agreement. (I would have to re-read the section in the ALRC Handbook "green book" about it for exact details.)
Best regards,
Dean
