Does the van mean a hardtop 90 would be breaking the law if traveling at 70 on the motorway , while a 90 station wagon would be completely legal ?

Your V5 probably has 'Light Utility' which means it is not a commercial, so same speed limit as a passenger vehicle.

Re
Disqualified & loosing Grandfather right of Towing without  test because of passing your test before 1st Jan 1997.
Opinions so far on another forum is,
that you would be treated as having a Post 1997 licence where you were required to Resit you test,
not from just a straight Driving Ban.

Anyone have any experience or opinions on this.
Or a Link to an Official DVLA or Legal site.

The lower speed limit only applies to vans 3500kg and over.

the correct wieght as per my earlier post

maximum laden weight of no more than 2 tonnes.  This means that the weight of the vehicle and the payload it is designed to be able to carry when added together do not exceed 2 tonnes.

regards losing you towing rights if you get banned, you also lose the other grandfather rights on your liscense , certain minibuses, small motorbikes, and all the other wierd bits,
the other change that has just come in or comes in very soon is taking learners out with trailers,
whilst i have a trailer entitilement on my liscense a cannot sit next to a driver towing a trailer on L plates because my entitlement is grandfather as opposed to having passed a trailer test.

caravan widths have also increased to meet european regs, mainly for hobby caravans that previously should have been towed by twin wheel transits (most are :P)
