Have you checked the switch? If all four sidelights are out of action then there must be a common cause.

I suspect it's as Sandy said the switch. If its all 4 you might want to check the supply cable to the switch...

Not too sure what type of LR you have otherwise I might be able to have a look at a circuit diagram.

Is there a relay involved in the circuit?

If the relay is goosed then although the switch has power to it, the power will only be to operate the relay and then the supply would be switched thro the relay to feed the bulbs.

Had a quick look at a circuit diag. and apart from the switch and the fuses there are only bulbs and the switch.
The left side has a fuse and the right side another fuse. I think therefore that if you have changed the fuses, the only common componenet is the switch. If you are sure there is power to the switch then its got to be the switch itself, clean the contacts first and see if it helps but opening up the switch is not really an option best replace they are not too much.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Check the earth wires(black or sometimes brown). There are several in the back they will be on the drivers side by all the rest of the wires going to and from the lights. They should be bolted or screwed down to the tub. Sometimes you get mutliple earth wires going into 1 connector at the back ge em a wiggle make sure nowts loose. Up front each headlamp has a earth usually bolted onto the inner wheel arch or kinda up behind the front wing panel.
Im working on my 90 on Sunday ye can pop along if ya dont get it sorted ill hae a wee look.

the early defenders have a relay type box hidden in the dash that controls all the lights, done away with on models with halogen headlights
its fitted behind the speedo

I lost lights on the old 110, a new earth sorted it as the old one had corroded and therefore was a bad contact
