P38 project
« on: January 29, 2011, 10:44:51 AM »
Hi,
I know very little about P38 (read zero), I have heard plenty stories about how susceptible to problems they are. But the cost seems fairly reasonable for a solid vehicle. Question is, is it feasable to strip out all the gadgets etc and make it into a basic "classic" type range rover, even transplant earlier engine/gearbox from classic rustbucket or is this not a feasable option?
Cheers

Hi

It's a LR, anything is possible! It depends how far you want to go, the thing with the P38 is nearly everything runs through the BECM, windows, seats lights etc. If you want to fully rewire it you could achieve classic levels of simplicity in a better package.

Personally I would very carefully choose a good one to start with and enjoy it as is. Potential reliablity problems aside it is a much more accomplished car than the Classic ever was.
