Not a landrover but whats your opinions guys?
« on: January 09, 2011, 12:59:44 PM »
For a while now been looking into buying either a crewcab or a pickup of some variety. My price range is limited only ?2500 max maybe more if i shift the landrovers or atleast 1 of them. Been looking at the l200, nirvara and i especially like the ford rangers. Any of you own these or know of  issues. Its gota be reliable as its for work and good for toeing. Mpg above my current 25mpg would be a bonus. Over to you.
Thanks.
Scott

The uncle has an l200, he had to get it towed back to the garage the day after he bought it as the turbo blew up, now replaced he has had no issues since.
A mate has a ranger and to my knowledge has never had a problem with it, hes never bloody cleaned it either!

Hi. I have heard the l200 had a problem with the woodruff key breaking. Never heard a bad thing about
the ford or Nissan. Always liked the l200 though.

The Navara's are Ok, depends on what you like though. The Aventura spec with the auto is extremely thirsty (think close to V8 landy territory!), they are also very heavy trucks.
Father had the old model L200, was always good and reliable. Uncle has a crew cab Ranger, AFAIK no problems with it.

Thanks guys and great Pm Camperman.
Its not alot of money to play with to be honest and its only really gona get me a l200 which is bad.
Im a huge fan of Ford they do know how to make very tough vehicles and the 2010 ranger xlt i ahd as a coutesy was soo nice to drive if not prone to a cheeky drift now and then . The defenders just aint cutting it now for a work vehicle hence the post. Any other vehicles you might know of guys?.

Yes good point their tuff as hell. Had a look last night for them they hold their value very well. Not sure if the newer shape is as strong and rugged as the mk1/2.
A van would be an easy option but i go through the floors fairly quickly carrying gardening machinery usually covered in soden crap. Got a trailer for that reasosn.

Google mark 1 Navara. You will be very put off. I nearly bought one until I did a bit of internet searching.
They are meant to be very bad for the engines failing. So much so Nissan uped the warranty to seven years but you had to have a perfect service history to claim. I bought an L200, very reliable.

Totally biased, I'd not buy any other 4x4 than a Landrover. Did watch a Navara totally unable to get up a minor hill the main road here during the snow ...."without a runup to get momentum" as the driver said  ???
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Its not really for the 4x4 just most crewcabs or pickups are 4x4 dont mean some drivers u see still spiiining in circle im more enclined to turn around find an easier way. Happily would use the 110 but she a bit big a bit to slow and no good at toeing even if i transplant a tdi. I dont like thrashing my landy she dont deserve it. Ford rangers looking good i know the councils use them alot you know of an auction house with a council contract?

Not many people pay much notice of the NCAP ratings when considering buying vehicles. I didn't until two close friends of mine nearly bought the farm in an accident (not their fault). Nevara struggles to get even one star! Think you have to have an accident just getting into it to do that.  :o

It is easy to say it won't happen until it does.

There's alot of Navara D22's going cheap due to engine failures. I know of a an earlier Navara D1?? which had a re-occuring fault in the top end of engine.
Get a Hilux - check out the Topgear destruction tests  :D
