My thoughts were that i could use it again when my 200tdi shreds the gearbox, or i have to lift the engine again. But you'd need to the room to store it if you're buying one.

I work on the basis that if you think that you'll use the thing more than a couple of times in the next few years its probably worth buying rather than hiring. If nothing else it means you've got a new one in decent nick. I've had some poor experiences with hired kit - often worked to death and not well maintained.
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Would it be possible for the Club to buy special tools and then rent them to full members when needed, its just a thought, it worked well in the RAF on base car clubs.
