« on: October 10, 2010, 07:04:09 PM »
Great day out today at Forrest Estate, Galloway, stunning scenery and a good drive round as well.  Some interesting wee bits off the beaten track as well.

Stuart (Navigator) doing some maintenance on his side steps at the side of the road

Stuart going where I wouldn't take my D3

And again

Stephen O mountaineering

Is he going to drink?????

The best D3 protection you can buy

And some scenery

Tons more photos here

Very Jealous, looks like a cracking day. Spent mine bolting bits back onto the 90. Promised the roof by the body-shop for tomorrow but I've just seen it lying in their yard, untouched.  >:(

Next time !!

have to say this was a superb day. big thanks to all who organised it. a real diference traveling solo rather in the usual convoy. really felt we were in the wilds (well mother did anyway when we seemed to be going for miles, she was convinced we were gona be out there all night :D :D ) but great to travel at your own pace, stopping as and when we wanted.

special thanks to tim who very kindly gave myself, mum and dad a run in his rangerover. that is some machine....what a step down going back in the freebie :-[ . thanks tim, much appreciated ;D

could have had a lot more photos if dad hadnt had a senile moment and forgot the memory card for his camera, old age does have its problems ::) but took some myself, will get them loaded soon

i hope we will be returning to this site again, theres still lots of areas to explore.
many thanks again, doug

There is another similar event there next weekend - I'll put the link into the non-SLROC section just to keep everyone happy.

What a fantastic venue for a Green Road Run, I only saw 5 other cars all day! Did all the special routes in The Big Grey Machine, which handled it all with ease. Some photos here http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/jollyjack99/Galloway%20GRR/ which I will add to and add some videos later on when my upload speed recovers enough to take a 200mb upload in less than 4 hours!

Could I ask Alan and whoever else organised this event to please thank the landowners, I really hope we can get back again as the scenery is simply amazing and in places down by the lochs you could imagine you were in Canada, just waiting for the seaplane to come into land at the jetty.

PS next time can we get to drive the disused spill way at Loch Dungeon please, looks like a great challenge for a Defender.

Jumbo, try plugging a firewire into the camera - my two Fuji Fine Pix cheapo cameras I have found have quite a lot of built in memory and I have found pictures hiding there when I have plugged the camera directly into my PC when I have forgotten to put a memory card in and have been able to recover what I though were lost ones that way.

I only saw five others as well - different five though as we were there for the opening.

The spillway is not disused when it rains!

I would have been there earlier had not some silly young lad jumped the lights his BMW 3 series at the roundabout at Ayr and driven straight into the side of a Ford Focus and brought the traffic to a standstill. ::) ::) ::)

Glad I didn't have to rely on Land Rover's offroad mapping for the drive....................................... there wasn't anything there according to Land Rover!

Half of Strathclyde Polis traffic division must have been there when I came through, road closed while they did some photos etc , only lost about 15 minutes. BUT all the way from there until Dalmellington I got stuck behind a Honda Civic with 4 up enjoying the view so just sat back and enjoyed it with them as I wasn't going to get passed until the straight just before Dalmellington.

Big thanks to Alan for all the work he must have put in, it's very unfortunate that there wasn't a better turnout for this event, the scenery was amazing as was the run, a great venue that hopefully we can use again.   :)

A great day out  ;D !

Lots of space - I saw 5 other vehicles all afternoon - and excellent signage, with a good variety of road surfaces to drive over, along with some lovely scenery.  8)

Many Thanks to Alan for his hard work in preparing the route, signing us all in with route sheet/instructions; to whoever was responsible for getting permission to drive around the estate; and to the landowner for allowing us to come in.

It was a long drive from Embra but probably worth it ....  :o

Estate Road Runs - love 'em   :-*

I think 20 vehicles turned out - which isn't too bad for a GRR/ERR  ???

Good pics Doug. I was that focused on following the arrows that I came out the exit, past Alan and had to turn round to come back and sign out!

You're all welcome to come back down on the 20th & 21st November, to watch a few foolsbrave men (and women) tackle the same tracks (and more) a tad faster than your 10mph.... they will probably average about 40-45mph.... average

:)
