Series Wiper Wiring
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:49:15 PM »
Hi

Can anybody point me in the right direction to get 2 speeds out of my series wipers. It should also park itself but all i get is one speed.

I have ran in new wires, earth, constant power, Speed 1 supply, Speed 2 supply and I am using a simple toggle switch on-off-on.The plug on the motor has the following wires and is connected thus:
Black = earth
Green = Constant power
Green/Red = Speed 1
Green/Brown = Speed 2

So where have I gone wrong. I have tried a number of donor motors but all are the same. If all else fails I will just go with a big resistor and put both supplies direct to the motor bypassing the plug and white nylon block on the side of the motor.

Ruari

I had a similar problem with my series when I was rebuilding it from bits and pieces lying around.   I messed around for ages until I sussed that the wiper motor I fitted was an early single speed one although the two speed plug fitted ok.

I thought the white nylon block on the side of motors had a built in restance. So depending upon which wire sent the power a different voltage would power the motor. As for park , I haven't a clue.

There is nothing in the wiring set-uo for my lwt other than the blocks and plugs you describe R. Park works fine on mine - better than the 90 ! - but again, its one speed or nil - 1971 2A. I have another motor I plan to swap in as mine was 24v so the wipers are even slower than normal....

If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....
