The crazy world that is car insurance!!!!!!!!!!
« on: January 16, 2011, 02:16:36 PM »
Just been having a rake about on the net looking for insurance quotes for a 35yo with a clean current licence, driving for 17 years,on a 200Tdi 90 van with a limited milage policy. Just for a interests sake and I was bored. The prices I've so far un-earthed range form the sublime to quite frankly the bloody ridiculous!

The lowest for a limited milage comprehensive coverage quote is ?151.77, all the usual stuff incuded, windscreen, courtesy car etc.

And the highest is, wait for it, ?2009.38! with exactly the same benefits as the one above.

These are from a well know comparison site, thinking I'll just stick with my renewal quote from PB insurance, ?125.89 fully comp.

My insurance went up slightly last renewal and i was told is due to alot of older landrovers being stolen which i suppose is true especially down south.

Is the insurance companies your looking at also cover you for the off road driving?
I got a pretty good quote for my TD5 & S2 from Adrian Flux for the full shooting match.

I just renewed mine for the 2nd year through a Broker called Primo PLC, and the insurers are KGM.

I moved from Tradex last year when the premium went through the roof for no reason.

I checked out the usuals such as greenlaning cover etc, and business use for me and my wife.  There was an increase this year, but I've insured my modified series 2, 2002 Disco 2 and 92 Defender fully comp for ?584 with all mods notified.  The will also do my comp prepared V8 Lightweight for ?160.  None are on limited mileage.

The real proof of the pudding only comes when something goes wrong.

Hi
The company im with is Sureterm4x4. Its fairly decent coverage. Its up to ?135 fully comp for the year. im 32. full NCB. parked on a locked driveway.
They give breakdown as standard. It covers greenlaning so some offroad coverage. Loaded trailer cover. Stereo and personal. When i did have a bump as it was not my fault they just collected the landy very quickly straight off to their approved repair centres and dropped me off a nice 2010 ford ranger xlt as a courtesy car. If you specify it ahs to be a 4x4 they will give you that. Been with them for over 6 years now.

Would you believe that the National Farmers Union don't give a 4x4 as a courtesy car - just a basic model jelly mould from Enterprise Rental. When I asked why I was told " No-one would pay the extra on the premiums....."
 ???
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Tell me about it Gene. I have green and blue oval with NFU. ...i got the 110 through uninsured loss, hence why it came from SHB 4x4 hire. The place the Goddess went to after her 'incident' couldnt offer me a 4x4 as a 'like for like'.

My insurance is due on the Goddess in the next month or two...waiting with baited breath to see what drops into the postbox....even as a non fault accident, im expecting a hike in my premium this year. :(

Aye, the website is http://www.peterbestinsurance.co.uk/ and the phone number is 01376 574000, you get a discount for being a club member also.

Hope you find insurance that's reasonable, seems to be turning into somewhat of a racket these days, license to print money for some of them.

Good luck!
