For anyone who hasn’t tried an RTV, here’s a brief idea of what to expect.
An RTV is broken down into a number of "Sections". A section is a short course across a particular piece of terrain. The course consists of a series of gates, a gate being two canes. The purpose is to drive through all the gates, without stopping, or touching any cane, the further you get, the better the score. RTV’s are about skill, judgement, and a lot of luck! This is not a speed event.
RTV scrutineering will take place between 08.30 – 09.30, this will check your vehicles steering for excessive play, a firm brake pedal, secure battery and front and rear recovery points. Make sure any loose objects in the pick up or inside the vehicle are secured. Competition will start at 10.00.
Only one passenger allowed when competing who must be a club member. Production Land Rovers can have a passenger, minimum 12 years old, any vehicle which is not “production” then the passenger must be over 14. Driver and passenger must wear a minimum of a lap and diagonal seatbelt. Non club members cannot be in the vehicle when driving the course.
If you want to find out more about an RTV then come along and spectate there’s always something happening so never a dull moment. This lets you see the action and meet some likeminded people.
So there you have it, the choice is yours, either come along and compete, help marshalling, or just enjoy the action while muttering under your breath “I wouldn’t have gone that route”, in which case it’s time you were competing!
