Steering Lock !!!
« on: August 26, 2012, 10:57:20 PM »
:D My steering lock turns 3 and a half turns in total,1and a quarter to the right and 2 and a quarter to the left.Would I be right in thimking that I can take the back track rod off then centralise the steering and put the rod back on ? Or is there something else I need to do.
I forgot to add that it is a defender 90 with a 4 bolt steering box

Drop arm can fit on the box sector shaft 1/4 turn out but this is unlikely as it should have put the steering even further out.Suggest you centre the box and the wheels after removing the front drag link, adjust the drag link length so that it can be refitted without altering the position of the wheels or the steering box. Another possible cause is the steering box sector shaft has got a twist in it after a hard impact against the wheels.
