I put ?20 worth of petrol in a td4 freelander. Any advice?
-
how far did you drive it with the petrol in it
-
A couple if meters just to move it from the pump. I need to know how to get the fuel out. Do you know where the sender unit is?

I would recommend swiftly slapping yourself around the head!

Thanks mate. Missus has already done that.

Empty the tank using one of those drill driven pumps and fill it with diesel.
Then go for a long drive to flush out the system.
This is what we did last year when my wife did it to the disco.

oops thats a good half tank full lol
td4s arent very forgiving if you give them 'dirty' fuel. mine objected rather noticeably to the fuel cleaner/additive i used once
-
Got it recovered now going to drain the tank and flush the system. Where Is the filter on a 06 td4. Really can't see it but I'm having a bad day.

Do don't need to figure out a way to dispose of the contents of the tank. You now have many years supply of fuel additive. Just put a cup-full in with each tank of diesel and save on buying Redex!

Good idea. I'll run it through my generator as well. Cheers
for the tip.

Jon both times i put petrol in the vectra I just dilluted it by filling tank another ?60 bled the injectors, filled the filter with desiel and hey presto of it went

Hi
Under no circumstances would I recommend running the vehicle with contaminated fuel. Diesel has a lubricating property which the fuel injection pump & system depends on due to the very fine working clearances involved, petrol on the other hand does NOT. The outcome of running with petrol in the system can be a seized fuel injection pump. I would suggest the system be drained completely and re-filled with clean diesel, then bled through, including all filters being changed, then bleed the injectors and pray prior to starting the engine. I know of a police BMW diesel where they attempted to "top up with diesel" and run it. The outcome was that all the fuel system had to be changed, very expensive!
Good luck

Hi. That's just what I done today. Cleaned the tank out and waiting on new filters now. Thanks for all the advice. Will be running tomorrow. ;D
