hi there .  can anyone tell me how much it would cost  roughly,to replace the clutch on my defender 300 tdi? i have a suspicion that its on its road out. there  is slight shuddering when taking off in 1st ,but also i think it was slipping a bit so i ease of on the throttle when it happens [twice so far] . are clutches self adjusting ? . i hope its not but if it is, whats the average cost done by a garage?.  a few questions so any help would be much appreciated  thanks  

My last one, about 3 years ago, cost me ?580. That was at a local garage, not a Land Rover dealer. ?240 of that was labour.

Where are you based

might be worth checking your master and slave cylinders first
also if you do put a clutch in make sure you fit a new clutch fork

local garage to me in aberdour fife takes ?250 labour plus parts to fit landrover clutch

    I would take ?320 plus vat for the fitting of a 300 defender clutch. This would be a genuine Borg and Beck clutch and an uprated HD fork. Not a difficult job to do if you have a ramp!!

thanks, that gives me a rough idea ,so if my clutch is needing replaced it wont be too much of a shock    the master cylynder and slave were replaced fairly recently ,within the last year. i stay in callander so there is one landy specialist not too far away[lix toll where i got landy from]  i will keep an eye on it for a while, although i might b delaying the inevitable . thanks again for  all the info  cheers
