Just driven through some heavy snow at Perth and out at the village the Discovery is covered if it keeps on tonight there will be a bit up here. The usual places have the snow gates closed already ie Glenshee, Tomintoul so keep looking . I heard that Forfar area was bad today as well.

The snow north of Forfar is something else,in some places, then nothing,
but this powder stuff blowing now & the ice is making very dangerous drifts apear where there is just black top road & clear fields.

'Most popular traffic jam cameras' is very handy to see the weather at some places before you get there.
or in deciding to take a route.
Check out the A90,

BBC site/incidents Didnt get updated during the night for 9 hours, but conditions changed lots.
Flashes of lightening last night & the Temprature rising well above & then dropping well below freezing was very unusual.

Got a wee pickle down in Sunny Greenock but its the ice below it thats the problem. Need to go out though work to do and things to get.

Wish I had my old tyres on instead of the AT's :( :(

I read a comment earlier in the week that AT's were better in the snow than m/t's. Something to do with the tread pattern more suited to snow. No idea if there's a truth in this and I'm sure some expert will be along soon to correct me :)

Meantime I'll just do what I did last year and watch my neighbours shoveling snow before I drive over the top of it. I noticed one of the neighbours at the bottom of the hill has now bought a disco following last years snow!
Regards

Ross

Doing a job down by Lesmahagow this morning. 6 in of snow on the way out, a dusting on the site when I got there  :(

Even more  >:( on the way home with the state of the M80 at Cumbernauld. Two lines of traffic trying to crawl through the roadworks, cars continually getting stuck. 4x4s owners were taking down the barriers to move into the open spaces created ahead of stuck cars.... 4 hours to do a journey that usually would take just over an hour. Finished off with towing a neighbour 4 miles. Wee Fiat thing, kids, shopping - completly unsuited to the weather - and no idea where the towing eye or tools were kept. ( Answer is a bag under the back seat - lets decant the kids into the snow while we fold all the seats forward....)

Very very smug about the Landrover tho  ;D

Had a good one tonight. Was on my way out of carrington midlothian when i found a wee vauxhall corsa sitting wheelspinning like mad trying to get up the hill. Nice exaust on it hehhe. So i thought i aint gona just drive past the poor sod. Offered a toe up into Carrington itself so atleast his cars off a bad corner made worse by the snow. Unfortunbatly these days the car designers seem to be utter nob cosk and made it so his corsa had it a wait plug in toe eye. and yes he had lost the toe eye. I did think wack a rope under and hook to swingarm etc but the front bumpers are so low on these cars and his was standrd i would ahve ripped it straight aff. cant exactly carefully push it up the hill either. He was ok his mum came oout about 5 mins later with snow shovel and garden shovel in hand she has experiece thats for sure. Shame could not help the lad so i went to the shops got beer as i aint cutting no damn hedges tomorow. Seen loads of defenders on my usuall road. Its fun.

na not really lying in ma beech hut being brought drinks and not spending a dime was sweet.........but then again wish i had the 88 on the road.

Im tempted to go buy a 90 since it will prob take me till next winter to get the 88 ready. (Wonders if a cat d series 111 in bits was a good idea lol)

Had a good run yesterday to Aberfoyle then up over the Dukes Pass to Loch Katrine.
Went in to the forest drive to give the dogs a run & the snow was up leval with the doors.

Cracking run O & i nearly ran over a snowborder that was getting towed behind a s111 land rover.

Not really when they think Hamilton is a housing scheme in Nottingham, and other place names show up as the "copies" in USofA and the Antipodes!

I towed a transit van stuck half way up the hill just past Hillend on the A702 yesterday morning, it was causing all sorts of chaos as everything was having to stop and wait to get past and struggling to get going again. Not bad for a 36 year old series 3! Got a wave from a Defender driver heading down, nice.

Alternative duties today, we've been ferrying home helps around as we're one of the few departments in the council to have 4x4's.

My two good deeds! M.

Another example of how localised the weather is this winter.  In Bothwell (in the Clyde Valley where it NEVER has a sever winter) there has been 5" in the last 12 hours.

I'm off to play now . . . .

I take it back. Nearly an inch and snowing hard. Roads near house shut - I'm being kicked out of worked.

Passed MOT with a list of advisories. So quick play in snow, then off to open fire, glass of ready wine and some quality reading. Haynes manual of all parts to replace ;D

I've potentailly got a job to do down in the Coalburn/Douglas area - I've to get a vehicle and trailer up a hill tomorrow or Weds. Anyone got an idea of off-road ( forestry track) conditions around the junction of the A70/M74 ( 5-10 miles west of Cairn Services ) ?

I was down there last week, no problem, snow was only an inch or two - but whats it like now ?

The emergency services in Fife have given out the following advice if you intend to travel during the adverse weather. Make sure you take a shovel, a bag of salt or grit, wellingtons, a torch, a blanket or sleeping bag, a flask of hot tea or coffee and a mobile phone, fully charged. Honestly I felt a right dick getting on the bus this morning to go to work!
