This time with the P38. Driving along in the rain near home, starts to lose power. Within 100 metres its cut out completely. All sorts of expensive looking warnings flashing up - Traction failure, Gearbox Failure, Engine Disabled, not good, deeply scary stuff and not a peep from the engine.......

Get a lift home, a worried man and look on tinternet. An American site has several folk saying that "Traction Failure" is usually associated with a flat battery ! Sure enough it sorta coughs when we try a jump-start and now after a few hours of charging and another jump-start it seems fine again, fired up on the second turn of the key. I've left it on charge, lets see what the morning brings !

What the hell were LR playing at with the P38 ? Great car but the electrics are just insane. What would be wrong with something as simple as a battery condition monitor instead of all this "gearbox failure" nonsense ?
If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

I am sure the same thing happened to Richard Dreyfuss in 'Close Encounters of the Third kind'. He wasn't in a P38 however.

May be worth looking upwards to see if a UFO is hovering above you?  :o

I'd have a look at the alternator first.   ::)

Maybe there is a mechanic at "Hanger 18" who could help  ;)

Similar happened to us en-route to Billing in2009. RAC man jump started us and no further problems till about 6 weeks later. Then it happened again. Turned out to be the alternator. Recon unit fitted and no further problems.
Geoff :)
