Which seats fit defenders
« on: August 20, 2013, 10:31:39 PM »
Hi Folks.
I am in the process of doing various bits and pieces to my 110 and once again started to wonder about replacing my worn out seat squabs.
In the past i bought a set of leather electric seats out of an range rover and after going to the trouble of fitting the drivers  discovered that they sat up to high, I had to duck down to look out the window.. I still have these seats stored so dont want another set..lol

Some folks have mentioned that they have various non defender seats fitted to their landies so I wondering if there is any advice out there regarding car seats that may fit... Obvious shortfalls are the access to the battery under the passenger seat, How do you get round this without having to move battery..

cheers

Volvo 760 leather seats in mine. Battery access pain reduced by reversing the bolts that slot into the seat runners and fitting butterfly nuts.
Considering running an Anderson connector to the battery. Had to cut an inch of the runners and move the outboard runners mounts out an inch too because they are big seats ! Dropped them to their lowest adjustment and they are fine heightwise for me at 5ft 8.  Tx to Duncan who donated them to the project !

I had Toyota Corolla seats (from a T Reg)fitted to my first Defender.  I had to drill out the rivets for the rear mountings so the rails would sit flat on the seatbox.  The seat squab bolted onto the frame from the underside.  To gain access to the battery I slid the battery compartment lid off to let me get my hand in with a ratchet spanner to undo the bolts.  What I also did was to put an isolator and and Anderson plug on the outside of the box to allow jump starting and battery cut off (in case of emergency) - so minimising the need to get access to the battery.

Genem elsewhere on the forum has leather Volvo 760 leather seats fitted to his Defender

The volvo seats look real comfy.
I have heard of the anderson switch but where would you fit this? does it just hang out the front of the seat box, I suppose it could go anywhere even near the front grill?

I have an anderson connector for my jump leads, I have attached it to the water wash bottle bracket to give me maximun length on the cables (after nearly not being able to use any because of relative battery positions in the not too distant past.)

Found Volvo seats a bit bulky but was able to mod MG Metro seats to suit, not too difficult to arrange a quick release facility to access the battery. For jump starting I also fitted an Anderson plug. I was still able to use the space under the drivers seat by cutting & hinging an access panel in the side of the seat box. Worked for me. An advantage of the Anderson plug system is that it makes your jump leads less attractive to sticky fingers.

Do you have any pics of the metro seats in your landrover?
I wonder if there are many metros left out there? lol

I found Rover 200 coupe seats fitted best.

The passenger seat is hinged at the front and gives full access to the battery.
both use their own runners and go forward and back like a car.
note the shape of the seat at the bulkhead, like it was made for it.

You will see in this pic the seats are the same height as a stock seat.

The seats do look good and as you said seem to be a near perfect fit..
Can you tell me which rover 200 coupe we are talking about. I done a search and found that there are two versions of rover 200, the older square type and then the newer model..
cheers
