Brakes not playing ball
« on: May 11, 2012, 08:32:16 PM »
So I've bled the whole system twice now.. with the arms all the way in.

After adjusting out and then back in slightly, i obtain pressure on the pedal after a few presses. If I hold the pedal, the pressure stays. If i release the pedal the pressure drops after 10 seconds or so.

I can find no leaks.

Any suggestions?

Its a series 3 109, single cylinder at back and twin cylinders at the front. Any help would be much appreciated, as this is the last thing on my tick box..

put mole grips on all the flexies if the pressure stays its possibly adjustment at least you can rule out master cylinder if it still drops change the master. i had similar and the shoes were poping past the adjuster simple fix extra washer but took a long time to diagnose!!!

hope this helps....Bill

I tried putting mole grips on the flexis, if i've done it right, it seems that it's the back its more of a problem on... If i clamp the back the pressure is lost less..

if its still dropping with mole grips on flexis , then it would appear their is a problem with master, try putting the back adjusters to max( till the wheel doesnt turn) if it still drops its defo the master( assuming you have all the air out !!!)

cheers Bill

Your problem is air in the system. what did you replace? and what make of part.
As i pointed out on the pm clamping cylinders( with cable ties) then bleeding will help.
Another thing to check is that there's no movement on the posts on the back plate.

thomas if you replaced everything( assuming it stops) when you put it in for an mot ask them to bleed system they will have a pressuriesed system to do it in minutes!!
