Window wipers
« on: February 12, 2013, 10:29:19 PM »
My wipers have now stopped working on my 90
As soon as I turn the ignition key the fuse blows
Disconnected the wiper motor, still the fuse went,
The reverse switch is also on the same circuit, could this be the fault?
I have the MOT re booked for Thursday, which looks like to have cancel
Any ideas before I set it on fire.
I think this car just does not want to be MOT'd. :'(

reverse light wires can short near the switch on the gearbox, they rub thru  as they come round the back of the gear stick turret,  worth a peek.

as a temp fix only run a live wire to your wiper motor for mot. you can investigate when the better weather comes.

Bill

thicko here, the wire should come from a permanent live like the battery or is there a live nearer to the wiper motor ?

Fag lighter?

Cheers again

the fag lighter is constant live on mine. But be carefull not to feed power back into the circuit with the reverse lights as you will have the shorting problem again. and if you havent fused the new feed could leed to big problems. one trick i learned and i know its not h&s was with an assistant i cut a 6 inch nail and put it in the holder very briefly as not to do any permenant damadge. looking for any smoke or that nasty sizzle that comes with a short. if trying this be very carefull as it can go disasteruosly wrong.

if you need a hand give me a bell.
