Hi guys,

I am desperately trying to contact a previous owner of my landrover to confirm engine details and when timing
belt was last done .

For piece of mind why not get it done yourself?
Then you don't have to decide whether or not to believe any stories.
"just done prior to sale mate"...?

ps never seen this land rover before!

I probably will get it done but no point in spending money if its not needed, the last owner didn't know any history and only had it for a few months , but someone that owned it has spent a fortune on it , resprayed , all new raised suspension , winch and winch bumper , 2.8 iveco engine , new clutch , adjustable air suspension , roof bar with spot lights, huge wheels and tyres , all profession alloy plates underneath , electric cooling fan , I just feel that someone spending all this wouldn't fit an engine without replacing the belt, apart from all this would be good to chat with whoever carried out the works .
It's certainly been built for off roading so I thought that someone from the Aberdeen area might have seen it ,I have the name and address of an owner but no phone number .

where in aberdeen - its a big place.

Its not a vehicle im familiar with - but as you say its a neat build , its possible one of the few local landy specialists have been involved with it .....

that said - for the sake of a couple of hundred quid to fit a new belt and have piece of mind.

Tarsets cottages, ellon .  I'm going to get belt done soon but would have liked to know what age/version of the iveco engine it is , log book says 2.8 but there is a circular stamp on cylinder head with a 94 in the centre, if that refers to 1994 then it can't be a 2.8 would be a 2.5,

There is no doubt that having a friendly chat with the owner that carried out the work would be the best way forward .

thats about 40 miles away from me as the crow flies im afraid , thatll be why i have not seen it/dont know em.

The 94 - proably refering to the KW output of the engine rather than the age ? 125 BHP is 93.21 KW

id look on the block for a stamping of the engine code.

id expect it to be type 8140 based on the 94 KW/125bhp asssumption and that its a 2.8 placing it in the 2000-2006 catagory.

Im not an iveco guru - im just bored . i lifted the above straight from wiki.

Originally there were model with three engine options, all of type 8140 of 2.8 liters. A variant was a suction diesel with 66 kW (90 hp), but they rarely sold. Another had turbocharger, intercooler and 78 kW (106 hp). The last variant gave 92 kW (125 hp) and had common rail injection. Shortly after receiving the largest engine variable geometry turbocharger and an output of 107 kW (146 hp).

Thanks top drive,

Mine is a turbo with intercooler , and I would expect that since everything about the vehicle has been done very professionally then the log book change will also be accurate at 2.8. So going with what your saying re the 94 KW mine is a common rail ???? How would I know this just so that I can be certain

The block should be stamped somewhere, not familiar with ivecos but maybe worth asking on an iveco forum where stamp location would be ?

If you must get in touch with the po you could try a V888 form. They give you the details of all previous owners, though I doubt if the DVLA would give you the details just to find out if the timing belt has been done. I have done a couple of these forms but for classics where 'historical interest' seems to be a valid reason to want the info.

I guess its a bit of a gamble whether the po would want their privacy invaded too...

If you can't id the engine is there not an engine number you can check out?

I've been on the Iveco forum they say engine number is very hard to see, it's under the manifold and I have looked and can't see it.

Can only suggest posting a photo of the engine on them iveco forums then .

Much like we can id a landy engine at 100 paces or by engine note there are people with that alrt of geekery about diesel vans .... Dont get it my self but hum ho
