Any forum members first-aid trainers?
« on: December 05, 2010, 11:18:25 AM »
Howdy folks, as some of you will know, a few of us are setting up Tayside 4x4 Response, and as part of our basic training will be basic first-aid, we require a first-aid trainer.
If you are, or indeed know a first-aid trainer please get in touch with either jon(python) or myself.
Thanks for reading
 Jay

Thanks Jamie, might be an idea to have one trainer then someone else to assess? Good idea?

Yes, that's often the way it's done. I'm certified through Lifesigns Group (Surrey based, adventure/ expedition/ medical company) my ticket covers HSE first aid and outdoor based FA courses.

I'm not sure how it all works if the providers (trainers/ assessors) come from different certificate issuing bodies (for example St Johns/ Andrews, Red Cross, Lifesigns etc) albeit the Syllabus comes from the HSE (I hope this makes sense). I'd like to think that it should be a simple case of showing the certificate to the other issuing body and jobsagoodun, but I suppose it depends on bureaucracy and how proprietorial the certificate issuers are.

.......I can look into it at my end if you like.

Had a quick ask around and as we will not be administering first-aid as our primary role, emergency-aid is the acceptable minimum, so this will be the minimum requirement for Tayside, of course we may offer further training to a higher level at some point. And/or have further qualified people amongst our number, be they paramedics, first-aid trainers etc.
So, I think we may have this one pretty sorted..... next one is finding somewhere that will allow us access for training such as recovery/self recovery and maybe the odd exercise in incident management etc. :-\
